    Hamburger nutrition before/after cooking

Hi, I just broiled up an 8 oz, 80/20 steak burger patty. The 8 oz was before cooking, surprisingly after cooking it weighed about 4 oz on my food scale. The nutrition info on the box was 570 calories per 8 oz patty. If it's 4 oz after cooking, will it have the same macros, ie 570 calories?

I'm not suggesting that the calories magically disappear... But it does seem odd that a patty would lose 50% of its weight after cooking, and 570 calories seems awful high for 4 oz of cooked meat, since 8 oz of cooked steak is about the same amount of calories.

Just to be safe, I always go by the box. I never assume that a significant amount of fat/calories disappeared due to cooking.

I've always sided with underestimating these things.

I'd go by the nutrition info. on the box if it's per hamburger patty. In the future, you're probably better off buying ground beef that doesn't come in a box =/
