its the code they use. each co-driver uses a different system but 'left 2 maybe' would usually mean its a left 2 but could be almost a 3.

There was a topgear segment which aimed to investigate why finns are rally champs, the conclusion was that you start young, have advanced training as a licensing requirement and participating in rallying is a national sport, its a great watch when you have time

To tell him how sharp a turn is i guess....so he can know how much to slow down, etc, etc

I can't watch the video, internet is running too slow but I assume they are pace notes, a navigator will have notes for each turn and hazard to read to the driver...the system might work so that tight turns are 9 and smooth turns are 1.

The navigator will announce what type of turn is ahead of the driver...left 5 200 metres into left 2 100m into straight 200m over crest:

Relatively tight left turn in 200m followed by a flowing left turn in a further 100m which is followed by a straight with a crest/bump 200m down the straight

When you have an unknown number of turns ahead of varying tightness, possible crests, gravel on the road, water hazards and more you'd wanna listen up real fukin good to your navigator brah. Much quicker and safer than assessing the turn once you are halfway through
