My Dad needs some cutting help!
Hey all,
I have no idea on this -
My Dad is a little overweight and he is looking to get into shape. He is 46 years old. What sort of diet should I put him on? I did a Keto Diet (Palumbo) and I was wondering if that would be appropriate for him. If not, what kind of diet should I put him on?

I'd go for a balanced set of macros, like 40/40/20 or 40/30/30. If his diet has been like most outside of these forums, just cleaning it up, eating under maintenance, and getting exercise will bring solid changes.
Of course he should also start lifting some weights if he isn't already

Well said. This is basically what I did and have realized good results. Cardio is important. Also the desire to achieve the results is the deal maker. If the fire isn't their than the results may not be so good.

^^^^This. Above all, just keep it simple, lest you run him off.

Not necessarily.... I lost my initial 53 lbs on a keto diet and still use it from time to time. It works especially well for me when I'm adding LBM. It's really about a balance of diet and exercise with consistency and intensity that is the key to success.
The point is, almost ANY diet will work and most are fine, ....... SO LONG AS YOU DIET!!!!!!!!

Speaking as a dad in that age range, he might get more motivated if you offer to train with him.

How much does he need to loose is the big question and is he really motivated to loose it. Training with you might help keep him motivated.
When I started on my weight loss and improving my health, I had not a clue. I did a lot or reading and signed up for website forums. the Key is information
Need to have him set a series of short term goals
Get him lifting to build muscle and increase metabolism
Get him in the cardio to burn fat
A simple curcuit lifting plan and cardio at first.
As for diet....
I started out with the Atkins Diet (mort protein foods than fat foods) about it for several months. Then relaxed a little and incorporated whole grain carbs. Now I eat pretty clean.
Also give him lots of encouragement and have others do the same. Getting through the first phase is about progress and having you effort it recognized.
that is what worked for me!
I am also working on a new set of goals for my approaching 50th birthday. I have gone from 210 with about 24% body fat to 175 and 12% body fat....I am pleases my 20 yro daughters friends think I am Hott (LOL...imagine that almost 50 and being considered hot by 20 somethings)...
