stay at home boyfriends/fathers
What does everyone think about men who stay at home with or without kids while the female works?

I was for awhile. I had a daughter at age 20, the momma was 18. She got mixed up with drugs and fell off the wagon, so I paid her fines off in exchange for her to sign over custody. Best investment ever. Took her 10 years to finally grow up and become responsible, but she finally stepped up to the plate last year and is working on rebuilding a relationship with her daughter.
but as far as staying at home, i did with my current gf for about 2 years. She was young as well (she was 19 when we got together, i was 27). She was a single mom of a 6 month old boy, and i was living with my daughter who was 7 at the time. about a year into the relationship, I caught a felonly charge (long story). Made it impossible to find any quality work for those few years. she happened to be working at a family dollar store at the time, and the manager handed her the keys and left, permanently.
It worked out for us...i was able to stay at home and raise the kids, while she took over the manager job. I was also able to work at the store quite a bit (for free, mind you, but she needed the help, the store was a mess when she took it over.) My savings and her income were sufficient to live adequetly for those years.
To be honest, I did catch a lot of grief...everyone calling her my 'sugar mama', etc. What they failed to realise is that I was already established, owned my own home and everything in it that we needed. My savings were enough to pay the mortgage/utilites for those years (though i did loot my 401k at the time). Not to mention I actually probably put in more hours at the store than she did, off the books. It was feasible because it had a huge office for her, we could set up the playpen and highchair and all that right there at the store. My daughter even got to learn a little retail! Add to this that she was pregnant with OUR daughter during that time, so she really couldnt overexert herself anyway.
I wouldnt trade those years if i had the choice. I became a much better father, a much better person in general imho. My relationship with all three of the children is second to none, i was able to help my gf establish her career with a growing company at a very young age, and we were all very happy.
Of course i did get restless though, and the time came where she was promoted to district manager...I was able to find a new job at a great company that didnt background check, and we've been living even better ever since.

A human being's brain isn't fully developed until a person is in their 20's. There was actually a study which showed that the part of the brain which enables people to avoid risky behavior is not fully developed until a person is about 25. Scientists speculate this is why so many teens have accidents.
Science says women in their twenties have better judgment than you.

my wife intends to become a midwife. at that point, she could make about 20K more a year than i can. we have 3 kids, and when we got married we decided that one of us would always be a stay at home parent. we were raised that way, we liked it, we can see the benefits, and we want to provide the same for our kids. if she can make more money than i can, it would be stupid for us to pass up that option. we are christians, and we made a vow during our wedding ceremony to always maintain a christian home, and as such, i have the responsibility/authority of making the final decisions. as long as that doesn't change, no problems here. i would work or stay at home. either is fine with me.

My ex stayed home while I went out to work, purely because I could earn more than him. It wasn't an ideal situation as far as I was concerned, but it was the best thing we could come up with at the time. He was a rubbish homemaker though and still expected me to cook dinner when I got in, plus I had to spend weekends cleaning.

My job is stressful. I'm in a position where much of the liability of the company rests entirely on me. I put my licenses at risk on a daily basis for a bunch of people (some of which I don't trust). Some nights I'm lucky to get 4 hours of any sort of quality sleep. The regulatory body that oversees my business could come audit us and if I've made any mistakes, I could be removed from the industry for the forseeable future.
I make a decent salary, but I work too much for it.
Does staying home to raise my son sound like a much better idea for me? Absolutely. Given the corporate nonsense I've dealt with in the last year, I could be completely satisfied raising my son at home.
I love having a clean, organized house... so I would have no problem keeping up with the housework.
If, in the future, I have the opportunity to stay home and not sacrifice the comfort of my family, I'll take it in a heartbeat... and people can say whatever they want... it won't matter.

Ive done it and did things faster and better than she ever could. Id get home, ask her what she did today and hear "Oh I swept the floors, made dinner". All that while I was gone for six hours..
Women make "Home making" as complicated as possible in order to justify doing jack **** 95% of the day.
Last I checked, watching "The Doctors", "Ellen" and "Judge Judy" isn't work.

Hardly.....Its 2009 not 1909. Just as Women have the freedom to take on traditional male roles without derision then so is a Man free to take on traditional female roles without derision. There is no room for double standards or sexism especially if you fully support Women having equal rights.
As for the topic at hand, I'd be more than happy to take care of the home and bring up the Kids if my Wife was the bread winner. I cant think of anything more empowering than educating, guiding and integrating into society the next generation of your heritage to becoming decent, strong, confident human beings as well as being the glue that holds the family system together.
Plus I'll sit on my arse for most of the day watching day time TV/surfing the Misc then a couple hrs before the Wife comes home, I'll top up the hoovering, dusting etc and then dump the kids on her for the rest of the evening complaining about how I had such a horrible day and I need time to myself. (always makes me laugh at the number of house wives with such stress of looking after the home and kids are still able to recount the exact story lines of every major day time soap on a daily basis)

It's called multi-tasking and better memory brah.
Anyway, I don't think I will ever agree with it. I can't even describe how much I dislike the idea.
You guys say that males in this country are having their balls removed and now we're going to take it up a notch and turn them into male "housewives"?
Sure, women can take on traditional male roles but it seems like while women are moving up, men would be moving down with the role switch (not to sound sexist but women have always been known to come second to men).

Im an egalitarian.... what's good for the goose is good for the gander. So personally speaking just as Men in general have thrown out their sexist assertions, so must Women with their prejudices towards traditions of Men. You cant have tradition whilst living in what is meant to be a an equal society.....there should be no distinction in roles based on ones appendage between their legs and a persons worth shouldn't ever be distinguished by external archaic values (which is what feminists fought for)..... otherwise the liberation should be viewed as nothing more than a one sided scam and those bra burners should be crucified for being the catalysts to the current state of this ****ty society. IMO.

Agreed. Unless you have a good sized house and that bitch is spotless every single day, she ain't really doing jack ****.
I remember my mother used to always bring up washing clothes like that wasn't 'put the clothes in washer, come back 30 minutes, take them out. Put in drier and come back in an hour".

You just pretty much slapped every housewife in the face that actually handles her business.
There are housewives that get things done, raise the kids and don't dump them off on the husbands when they get home. Housewives raising kids are just as important to this country as firefighters, CEOs, career military men, etc., etc.
Have you raised children yet? Do you know what it's like to have a 2 yr old (I have one now) around 24/7? What about the moms raising an infant and a toddler? Or 3 or 4 kids?
I'd be careful of what you consider taking a step down and look at the importance that this position in society can play. I'd venture to say that behind most successful businessmen is a mother that tought discipline, organization and hard work.

Stay at home dad- my dream job. Marry rich, so you don't have to work. 10-hours a day to make a couple meals, do laundry twice a week... thats the life.
