I like 'em both. They're both cool in their own way.

#2. I love Dolly, but 1970s rock rules imo.
Dolly has what I'd call a thin voice. She really cannot hit certain notes and wavers on others covering it with 'twang' of country. She's a package deal - the look, the boobs, etc. not an vocal artist per se. All respect to her, but her voice has always been a bit thin to my ears.
'Best Little Whorehouse in Texas' song she did was the best. Sorry to Whitney Houston, but Dolly owns that song. The Watchmen

never liked Dolly's voice, the original Shania Twain. They both use a lot of tremolo because they can't hold pitch.
Neither can sing worth a damn and just use the looks to get by. Not that that's a bad thing in Shania's case! lol Just don't like her singing, but she is a fine looking woman!Yorkshireman I: Right! I had to get up in the morning, at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed, eat a lump of cold poison, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill and pay mill-owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our dad would kill us and dance about on our graves, singing Hallelujah!

dolly sings about as well as neil young. I love Neil Young, but he has a "distinctive" voice.
But to be fair, lots of people have failed who have great voices, it's just one part of the total package in regards to commercial success.Yorkshireman I: Right! Never cared for country music, but just listening to the quality of Dolly's voice is what sets her apart from a lot of others. Granted, she never had all that great a range compared to some other singers in other genres, but she did--and maybe still does--have a purity and clarity of tone that not many others possess. Never great range, but with that kind of music, you don't really need great range.
As for Shania Twain, well, she hawt..."Don't call me Miss Kitty. Just...don't."--Catnip. Check out the Catnip Trilogy on Amazon.com
"Chivalry isn't dead. It just wears a skirt."--Twisted, the YA gender bender deal of the century!

Never cared much for Dolly's voice, but I love her, um...personality. And, I really like the White Stripes. But him singing that song? Kinda creepy. So, I will go with Dolly.

Well.
The White Stripes version sounds more emotive, like the singer is in pain, so I find the music a little more expressive. However Dolly Parton's version has big knockers, so I'm going with Parton."Blessed be the Lord my rock, who trains my hands for war and my fingers for battle." - Psalm 144:1

Dolly is a great singer and songwriter. Jack is a great artist. Both have distinctive qualities, and both give the song a different "feel". BTW, it's a great song. If you want a real tearjerker, check out Dolly's "Coat of Many Colors":

I would argue with those who say that Dolly and Shania are not good singers, I think they are both very talented and good at what they do. And I do not, as a rule, enjoy country music...(rock and roll!)
