offseason is when a bodybuilder just puts on pure mass.. he doesnt eat very lean or not lean at all and the number one goal is to gain as much size as possible.. so that when he is back "on season" he can cut down all the fat and lower the water retention and look bigger cuz he gained muscle..
gaining muscle while eating alot is easier than by eating little or easier than during a pre-competition diet wich is mostly based on loosing fat
