People who BBQ(serious)
I've always used propane(and propane accessories) to grill but recently got a smaller charcoal grill to try out.Charcoal tastes a hell of a lot better but takes a bit longer but I do not mind.Burgers on it beat anything cooked on the propane grill, sorry Mr.Hank Hill.
Question, someone told me when cleaning out the charcoal grill I should leave a bit of ash in there.Something about it helps the grill retain a higher temp and prevents heat loss.
Is this true?? Just wondering.Thanks

I rushed him and caught him flush on the temple with a titanic right hand he was out cold, convulsing on the floor like a infantile retard." -Mike Tyson

If you watch King of the Hill, there's an episode where Peggy finds out that charcoal grilled tastes much better and she tried to hide the fact that she has been using charcoal after that.

i have heard that as well, and have no reason to disbelieve it as the ash is a higher temperature than the open flame while actually cooking.

You can control the heat with charcoal, just move all the coals to one side.I like the charcoal for simple things like burgers, hotdogs and chicken but I probably wouldn't try chicken legs on it.With propane I always get flare ups on high heat and I clean the mother****er after every use and let it burn 15 minutes before cooking to clean everything,**** still flares up.With the charcoal it doesn't flare up at all.

yaa i bbq quite a bit and have read many articles, watched tvs shows etc on bbq and never heard of leaving ash to retain heat...with a new grill propane is easier to control the heat but once you use a grill for a while you get to see how to control the charcoal, how much to use, where to put it, etc and the food tastes much much better...for quick food propane is obviously easier but if you really want to into it charcoal is the way to go

I do not feel that it has anything to do with temperature.
