Don't limit yourself to retail jobs, check local gyms, other websites, maybe get your training license.

Get payed 10 bucks an hour to watch movies and chill in a beer factory. lol

Learn a trade once you got some experince then work for yourself, profit.
I'm a plumber and I think there will always be jobs for trades, might be hard at this time of rescission but this won't last long, soon it will pick up and you'll have a good job.

Yellow pages.
"Roofing," or "siding," or "home improvement" or "home builders."
Write them all down, go apply. Yeah, the housing market is for crap, but it's peak season for these builders, and they always have SOME work. A guy your size, and just for summer (read they don't care about you and don't have to work in too much insurance, benefits, etc...) would be perfect for the both of you.
Good luck.

I'm gonna try this.
I want to paint, but have no "formal" experience so places won't even look at me.
Building would be awesome though.

Of course. It's an excellent way to meet other builders, too, who may employ you and train you on the job to paint, if that's what you like.
And OP, give up retail. LOL. They see your age, and that you're in school, they throw your app out...they know they got you for two and a half months, and will spend half of that training you to the point that they feel comfortable with you. Not a good investment on their part. Be up front and honest about being temp, and you'll brainstorm all kinds of places. Some counties have road crews that do everything from surveying to laying down asphalt. Not bad work, and great reference later on, should you want any government work.

Go check the industrial park near you - there's usually warehouse positions available that aren't widely advertised/known about. IE: truck/equipment dealers (Kenworth, Peterbilt, Freightliner, Caterpillar, Cummins, etc)

Very true, but all I know is there is always another site out there that will come up. Pretty much every company I applied to called me back within 24 Hrs, so they need people

Try applying at your local park district. They always need maintenance workers, lifeguards, concession people, coaches, refs, camp leaders, etc.
