Treadmill repair help
I picked up a used treadmill for ten bucks at a yard sale. I brought it home and everything worked perfectly, even the displays. I got on it this morning at a medium paced walk and it was fine for 36 minutes. Then the belt started slipping. Can the belt be tightened up? Keep in mind I had a mechanical bypass as a small child. So I can't fix anything lol.

on the back end of the treadmill there should be a bolt on the left and right side of the belt that will tighten it up...

Check the machine
Check the machine for repair numbers. If you have a brochure check it for number as well. And what ever the brand name is of the treadmill should have a website.

Best place to figure out how to tighten that belt is here on the intenetz.
Google the make and model number and I am sure that you will find out how to fix it.

Actually the bolts at the rear rollers on the left and right sides are your belt centering bolts, not adjuster bolts to tighten the belt.

To tighten the belt you need to adjust the front roller forward, slipping can also be caused by loose drive belts from the motor fly wheel to the front roller, and by the motor being to small to handle your body weight, plus about a million other things lol.
What type of treadmill is it?

If you over adjust your center alignment bolts (one way or the other) it would probably tighten the belt (forcing it into a slight angle or slight miss alignment) long term, not the best for the tread belt. It's definately better to adjust your belt tightness in the front rollers. Depending on the model/brand of treadmill and how they mount their front rollers, can make the task tricky.

That's your problem right there, it's a Pro Form and your 293lbs. Very high probability that the motor can't put out enough torque to keep the belt at a constant speed with your bodyweight. What's happening as you step down with one foot (as the other foot raises, progressing through natural stride) the foot that makes contact is for a fraction of a second stopping the belt. Just before the opposite foot lands on the belt/deck and your other foot raises, the belt will jerk forward (or slip) as the motor tries to push the belt forward from that fraction of a second stop that occurs every time your feet rotate through stride progression.

I looked at the PDF file on this and it is an older style adjustment at the rear rollers to adjust the belt by turning both set screws in a clockwise position. You also need to lubricate the deck with silicon gel or spray as well. Even if you take these steps you still might have some slipping issues.
