White rice is superior to other carb sources. Because body absorbs it more easier than other carbs. ask any body builder, they will tell you they eat lots of rice everyday. white rice makes you bulk better than pasta, oat etc.
In my opinion oats is a terrible bulking carb source. It is absorbed slowly, has a lot of fibre, and has low calories. But it is great for cutting.

100% whole grain/wheat pasta for me. It has a lower GI than anything up there. Rice takes me forever to chew, idk might just be me, plus I can never eat enough of it. Oatmeal makes me sick to my stomach. I love the taste of pasta plain or with sauce.
One note to consider is the more you cook the pasta, the more you break down its starches and structure, thus raising the GI of the pasta. The pasta has such a low GI because of the way it bonds and holds together with proteins. So to cook pasta without loosing your low GI, cook it until it bends, but is slightly crunchy in the middle.
Another big one for me that's not up there is potatoes. They have a high GI, but are good for post workout.

Semolina digests very slowly, hence the low GI. I personally have never seen an article pertaining to lack of absorption when digesting semolina, please provide a resource. My pasta lists semolina as one of the last ingredients, meaning it takes up the least portion of the pasta. Not that there is a problem with semolina in the first place.

RICE!!!!!!!
You take my rice, I take your life.

Your assumption that wholewheat pasta is healthier is incorrect. It does not always have more fiber, more nutrients, and it not always less processed.
GI I don't think tells the whole story in terms of what is best for nutrition. Plus I think it depends on why one is saying one is better. GI may matter more in terms of refuel. If people are trying to get carbs within a certain window after working out to replace glycogen, then GI may have more weight. But most people here aren't endurance athletes and may not be concerned with that.
If meal timing isn't a concern then likely GI doesn't matter at all. Your body will get to the carbs when it gets to it so why bother caring about GI?
I think over all health would be the concern over which one is better. Performance probably wouldn't be impacted by the different varieties.Last edited by Connor1226; 01-13-2015 at 10:01 AM.
I like personal responsibility and accountability. When you admit you are the problem you are simultaneously admitting you are the solution.

I eat and thoroughly enjoy egg whites; for some reason you now think you are smarter than me. This makes me smile.

Has absolutely nothing to do with the pasta vs rice thread, please stick to the thread topic. But yes, cooking your pasta to al dante is absolutely fine, I never said anything against it... Overcooking your pasta WILL lower the GI. I prefer to be safe and leave my pasta slightly crunchy in the middle, its my preference. I have no idea which thread your are referring to, as this is my experience, not referring to any threads.
