What to eat before bed - During contest prep
Guys what kind of food to you eat before bed?
I am 7 1/2 weeks out
I was thinking about getting some casein protein for now and the dropping it 2 weeks out switch to just tuna or chicken or eggs etc..
Will the casein protein cause me to bloat as I heard it was a "dairy" "milk" product and milk during contest prep is a bad idea..
Need some ideas to help me go throug the night without eating my muscles!!

Right now I'm finding just plain tuna salad to be great.... Only a slight bit of mayo so the fat will slow the digestion of the protein and pretty much no carbohydrates in it. I get crazy hungry before i go to bed and this really helps without ruining my cut. I havnt tried casein though...

Do you mix the two, or are we talking PB by the spoonful?
I wouldn't worry too much about your before bed meal, just have something you like that fits in your calories. If you really want to start splitting hairs and getting optimal about it, then your casein protein would work well, and you could mix it with some fats or fiber to further slow digestion.

Casein does work pretty well, I wouldn't worry about bloat, espcially at 7 plus weeks.

I eat carbs every night RIGHT before bed. and I'm down to 175 from 200lbs when I started my prep. All depends on daily macros...I eat 6-8 oz chicken, broccoli, 70-80g carbs from brown rice or barley mixed with 3-4 tablespoons of naturally more every night...and i keep losing fat lol

Yes, carbs before bed is completely fine. That advice you hear down at the gym is what we like to call 'broscience'. Your body does not hav an on'off switch that just makes it all of a sudden start storing carbohydrates as fat. Not only that, but your body doesn't act on any kind of a "daily" schedule, but rather a continuous flow of energy balance.

I knew it had to be! I've read your posts from you before and I knew you knew better! I get in those moods too sometimes - posts like that can spark a 500 page debate lol
And yes, the bro has become pretty strong around these parts...that's why I just answer questions in my thread for the most part and rarely venture out into the other sections...

really dont think casein is necessary. if you add some pb to whey it slows digestion anyways. if you already have whey, just use that.

What is everyones thoughts on milk during contest prep?
I read alot of people totally cut it out weeks before a competition.
I'm 4 weeks out would it be ok to have just a bit of milk before bed and whenever I make oats use oats + milk??

Unless you have some pretty bad lactose intolerance, milk is fine to drink during most of your prep. Just to be on the safe side, you may want to cut it out the last week, or at least the last few days - that would probably be enough time to relieve any bloating it may cause. For me personally, reasonable amounts of dairy don't cause any bloating at all... some people are not so lucky. Base your decision off of how your body responds to dairy.
