Are stilettos still stilettos if they cost less than $200?
I'm just curious as to how many people believe this.
I was talking to a guy the other week (azzhole) and we were talking about shoes (stilettos specifically) and he said that if the shoes cost less than $200 they're not stilettos; he also went on the rant about "fashionally ignorant southern women" and how he wish he could bring back a woman from NY.
Is this true?
Do you wear stilettos?
Are they cheap or expensive?
I have one pair and yes they are cheap because I wear a size 12w in dress shoes (the only store that sells my size shoe is Payless), 11w or 12w in boots depending on how they are made, 10.5 in men sneakers, and a 13 in stripper heels.
Now if Gucci made heels in a 12W I would buy them.

I LOL'd ...dude sounds like a moron and is obviously flamming.
According to Merriam-Webster:
Main Entry: stiletto heel
Function: noun
Date: 1953
: a high thin heel on women's shoes that is narrower than a spike heel.
Nothing at all to do with price but rather the make of the shoe.

I guess by his definition I don't have any stilettos in my closet, then. Who cares how much they are? If it's cute, I'm going to wear it.

Yup, it's just a freakin' SHOE!
I don't see the point of paying $200 for a shoe that I can't even wear for more than 3 hours and that's if I'm sitting down. Any pair of shoes must look SUPER AMAZINGLY COOL and be extraordinarily unique/rare for me to spend $200.
I'd offer the guy some country wisdom and poke his eye out with a $20 stilleto from Payless

Penny Loafers didn't cost a penny...
I always thought it had more to do with the heel than the price. You should tell your friend that unless his name is Jimmy Choo, he has no business speaking about women's shoes.

Like I said, he was a true azzhole.
For some reason I've been running into alot of men who happen to be fashion/beauty experts.
This dude at the Chinese resturant had the nerve to tell me my scalp was dry!

Are these dudes gay or something? (Nothing WRONG with gay of course, OR straight men who give beauty advice, but going by good ol' southern stereotypes, men who are exceedingly into beauty tips and shoes are usually gay...)

When I googled stiletto I came across this:
Quote:

Stiletto heels transmit a large amount of force in a small area, and are therefore often strengthened by a metal tube, into which is inserted a metal or hard plastic tip.
|
I don't know if the cheap ones have metal tubes in them or not.

They might. The operative word is "often" as opposed to "always"

A stilletto is a style of shoe, generally a very high heel, with very very thin heel on it. I own two pairs of stilettos, one cost me $100, and the other cost me $40. Both heels are higher than 4" (one is 5 and the other is 6...I think), and both heels are smaller than a canadian dime (which is about the average size of heel for a normal pair of heels).
ps. if he has a problem with the cost of my shoes, I bought both pairs in NY...I also bought a $200 pair of shoes in NY that werent stilettos (in fact they have a really really thick heel...which would classify them closer to a mary jane or mule)
Its amazing how many men think they know things about fashion. I actually had a guy (probably about 50), come up to me in a bar and tell me if I was going to wear an off the shoulder shirt to wear a strapless bra with it...I laughed hysterically when the shock wore off (I was wearing a tank top underneath a see through white off the shoulder shirt..and a strapless bra...lol)

that is probably one of the weirdest things I have read in a long time... a stiletto isn't a stiletto unless it costs more then $200 bucks?! lol... l'sigh, that is just weird.

Why do you pay attention to a guy that has this description?
Stilettos are about the heel not the price.

unless he's the one wearing the heels, I wouldn't bank on a guy being an authority on shoes

My vote is that for your birthday, Christmas or whatever...you ask him for some stillettos. You know whatever he gets you is gonna be good.

I'm pretty sure he was just putting up a front.
Unless he's coming to UAB for medical school, any man that moves from NY to Alabama is a FAILure. Felon, con man, baby daddy run away, something is w-r-o-n-g.

Ha ha ha. What a doo-fus. Were did you find this guy? "stiletto" is Italian for "pen" the heels of the shoes look like pens... that's it. They could cost $2... LOL.
I don't rock heels since I could get injured and not be able to run. They scare me!

Nice to know where the actual term comes from And Ive limited my heel wearing like crazy because of the same reason (bad knees....could mess up my rugby season) I dont think I've taken the 6" stilettos of the shelf for a good year...I know you are supposed to get rid of things you have that long, but they are so pretty I just cant give them up yet

I've always been amazed at how some people can make judgements about a womans "genital generosity" based on her footwear..

I've always been amazed at people who know enough about footwear to make that kind of judgement.

Tell me about it! I am cheap... lol But to prove my point I love shoes and I found this cute pair of black pumps at walmart for $16 and one day I walked into Journeys and found the same pair for $45!! Needless to say I was pretty dang proud of my purchase after seeing that!

depending where you shop, typcially womens clothes are alot cheaper then mens, I can pick up a whole outfit (jeans, shirt, jewellery) for the same price my partner would spend on one shirt...
