Every cloud has it's silver lining
after my old gym closed, and a move across town, I found myself a 3 minute walk away from the local Y which I was excited to join for it's pool and athletic facilities. One drawback was that it was not a lifter friendly gym with dumbells only going to 100 lbs. I would make a suggestion or two but it usually fell upon deaf ears hence I have seen no increase in chest strength or size since I started but have come to terms with that.
A year after joining, and the amount of members rising dramatically, expansion was planned. Prior to it was 50/50 approx, weights to cardio. After expansion 75/25 cardio to weights and there is an indoor track. Always boggled me as to why you need so many treadmills if you have an indoor track LOL. Again a few other members and I made suggestions, as they planned on getting new equipment if they could get 110,120 and 130 lb dumbells. Not to start battle of the sex's, the majority of management who were women at the time (no they didn't have sex changes) made a comments to me to paraphrase "we want to be a beginner friendly gym, we do not want to expand our cliental that way". Undoubtedly I took offense, made a few backlash comments such as "better to have people pay yearly and quit 3 months in, than have dedicated yearly ongoing members I guess. I think a lousy lie would of been better than what they insinuated.
Anyway the silver lining, and not counting the chickens before they are hatched, but today I learned the new director/president is a former pro football player!!! Everything's coming up Milhouse LOL

Everyone's got their chains to break, holdin' you
I needed somewhere to hang my head, without your noose
You gave me something that I didn't have, but had no use
I was too weak to give in, too strong to lose
My heart is under arrest again, but I break loose
My head is giving me life or death, but I can't choose
I swear i'll never give in, no, I refuse
Has someone taken your faith? Its real, the pain you feel
The life, the love, you'd die to heal
The hope that starts, the broken hearts
Your trust, you must confess
I've got another confession my friend, I'm no fool
I'm getting tired of starting again, somewhere new
Were you born to resist or be abused?
I swear i'll never give in, I refuse
Is someone getting the best of you.....

For some reason, a lot of women I have met over the years think that if an object is really "heavy" to them, that it is a generic characteristic of that object being "too heavy" for everyone.

I worked out a Y it was the same way. Dont get me started on how many treadmills they had. Silly question maybe can you just use barbells instead.

Never a silly question, only silly question is the one never asked.
I experienced various shoulder pains through the ages of 29-32. On the advice from a trainer and an older bodybuilder who experienced the same problem and a surgery, they advised me to not do any barbell presses at all, and stick only with dumbells. Been 6 years now, never felt a pain since. I have small joints, and they both reiterated that dumbells would build my stabilizer muscles around the joints better and stronger. I guess with your grip being fixed on a barbell, the range of motion going up on a press might not fit your range of motion in the joint I guess or something like that. I do notice that with dumbells the path is different on the way up vs down.

My Y has up to 120 lb. dumbbells. I'm not at that level yet, so they're plenty big enough for me.
My only wish, dumbbell wise, is that they'd double up on some of the sizes. That way, I spend less time waiting around for the pair I need to be free.
