What's with the tuna obsession?
I'll admit its really convenient when pressed for time but other than that whats the deal. I mean the taste is nothing to brag about and its really not even the cheapest source of protein.
I've always wondered where you guys were buying your tuna. Around me the cheap store brand is $1.50 a can. At 120 cals and 26 gr of protein its a good deal but i can get more protein/cals from chicken breast ($1.99 a lb on sale) or whey (~$.50 per scoop) Those are both really low fat too so that can't be it either.
Is there something I'm missing here? I mean I'll eat a can every few days but some people are eating 2-3 a day. Is tuna just really exspensive around me or something?

You said it yourself it is a very convenient source of protein. And's good for when i can't be arsed to cook a chicken breast. Just eat that bad boy straight outta the can with a little bit of tomato ketchup mixed in. Plus some types of tuna have very high levels of omega 3 fatty acids which has a whole host of benefits for your body. It's been said to burn fat and contribute to muscle growth. Plus i think it taste damn good!

Protien Scoop is about 50 cents per 24g protein
Tuna for me is about 65 cents per 22g protein
Chicken for me is about 75 cents per 22g protein
They sell tuna cans, wal-mart brand for about 65 cents for one at walmart. I also buy the chicken in the big packs that come with about 8 breasts for 15$.
Its not that much more expensive for a different flavor. I eat it mainly because it doesn't take long to prepare. I hate taking a ton of time to cook when I just want to eat.
Cottage Cheese on the other hand will own your wallet. I stopped buying it because its so expensive.

Personally, I love the taste.. helps get some Omegas in too..
And I love to mix it with different things as well.. tuna salad, mayo, cheese etc

It's inexpensive, convenient and stores forever.
But, then again, I probably eat canned tuna as much as you do. I'm not big on the taste of the tuna itself.

I eat it because it is loaded with protein and Omega-3 fats.
I get solid white albacore at CostCo pretty cheap too.
Canned chicken...? I think it tastes like the can, sorry!

Because some people believe that rotating protein sources will somehow make a difference in regards to muscle growth.

What do you have against tuna?
It's so god damn convenient, pretty cheap, tastes good (imo) and tastes even better with horseradish or mayo, and although low-fat, has a very healthy fat profile.
That being said, I don't really eat it often, but I enjoy it when I do. I hate the chunk light **** so it's kinda expensive for me.
ps: this thread was ripe for a nutrition forum sex joke, but I just made one like 2 minutes ago.

i dont know about anyone else, but i love tuna. i cant get enough of it. you can make it into a sandwich, a wrap, by itself (course you can also do that with chicken). its relatively cheap around me, but i have started taking more protein powder (cheap EAS protein) to replace it to save some money

actually i think it's reminiscent of canned tuna and it puzzles me why. perhaps it's run on the same machinery at the factory's.

I like the convenience of snacking on tuna pouches when I'm at work, but they're $1 each on sale and only 2 oz/60 cals/13g protein.. so not the best deal in town, but throw some black pepper on there and it's a good snack.
I should eat more canned chicken actually, not bad last time I had some.

If you eat canned chicken, put a little salt/pepper, garlic powder, and salsa in it. That will make it bearable, although it will still be a little dry...

starkist chunk light tuna is the best tasting...chicken of the sea a close 2nd...
i know that food prices are nasty in NY (i'm here too) but Tops had an off-brand version tuna for .40/can...i bought 8...
tuna is great if you add 1/4 cup cottage cheese (i pretend it's mayo)

I personally love the taste, plain, straight out of the can, yes there are cheaper sources (I have same prices) but it tastes good, and it has a decent breakdown. Actually, try it with some salsa, pretty good

Also, taking one scoop of protein powder isn't anywhere near as filling as eating a can of tuna
