WS4SB Questions
Hey all,
I'm about to start WS4SB 3 to getting my athleticism up and to be fit and strong again for football. I've had time off of working out about a good 3 months or so because of school and being a senior homework tends to take over my life to some degree. Anyway I'm looking to get back into shape for football (NFL) over here in Australia which is late October, so I have some time off. Over time I have kind of have put on some weight/fat and I was wondering if I should make a cut and cut all the un-wanted fat so I can start clean.
This is going to be my first time working out as an athlete as I've been following bodybuilding routines and in WS4SB 3 I notice he incorporates a lot of running and cardio exercises etc. So what should I do?
I want to start of good so should I cut my body fat so I'm lean and start of clean bulk?
Also what diet should I follow, being on a bodybuilder routine I cramped a lot of protein in my diet and that's all I cared about, what diet should I follow can you fellow WS4SB's user give me a routine and diet to follow please, that would really help me.
Anyway I just wanted to ask some questions so I can get back on track and start off good.
Thanks in advance.
Jase.

...if your primary goal is to get better for football why would you be looking to cut and lose bf%???

Are football players supposed to be fat? Better strength to weight means better athleticism. Go through defranco's "ask joe" archives. He answers a lot of questions about nutrition.

i don't want to be 'fat', i want to be muscular and lean, so i'm asking would it be best to cut back on the fat to show what muscle i have and start fresh and new again with a clean diet. Or will running etc. from WS4SB's help me loose the weight??

..from my experience the majority of the time the more mass a player has the more potential they seem to have...training for football isn't about getting a cut is what I'm saying, sure WSFSB could help you lose some weight if you threw in some conditioning but it is not designed for that as the sports it usually pertains itself to don't benefit from losing weight. If you want to get in shape for football that's great..but why would you try to lose fat unless you are overweight and wanting to be a safety?

This is Joe Defranco himself off of t-nation.
JD: Excess bodyfat doesn?t help anyone! It only serves as an anchor when you try to perform! I don?t want an athlete carrying 300 pounds of **** in a 200-pound bag! Obviously, not all athletes need to try and achieve the same bodyfat levels. For example, an offensive lineman doesn?t need to be as lean as a wide receiver. But, the bottom line is that there's no advantage to carrying around too much excess baggage.

It's best to be lean, unless you're way undersized and you need to weight. Body fat will just limit your ability on the field and hold back some potential.

I said the comment because the guy seemed like he was more worried about having abs compared to his athletic performance. Like I said before, it can also depend on his position, he didn't tell us what position he's going to play.
