Hype over Heath
I like Phil Heath and probably agree he will one day become Mr.Olympia, if not this year arguably.
But I see a lot of people on the board seem to think he is going to make absolutely incredible improvements this year like the last two years and blow us away.
In reality, I think there's too much hype over Heath this year. I personally don't see him coming in much different size-wise, especially based on recent off-season pics. His conditioning is already really good and I don't think his frame allows for all the extra muscle you guys seem to be expecting, especially without ruining his lines / symmetry.
Maybe I'm just the only one here, but I think Heath's just going to be really similar to last year and still be exceptionally good. I can imagine in a few months time there are gonna be guys who're really dissapointed that he isn't 20lbs heavy like they seem to expect lol.
Opinions?

He has been making incredible improvements from show to show and now with a full year to prepare, I think he is going to look incredible. I am not ready to hand him the sandow yet but I like what I see so far.

Well if Kai greene could make "improvements" coming in and smoking people at the AC, then why couldn't the gift do it too. The man has gotten better each time. Whats different this time? He took time off so you KNOW there has to be improvements because
A) new to the game 7 years in, body not maxed out. the average gym rat dedicated to lifting can put on 7-10lbs a muscle a year. IFBB Pros can put that on and actually hold on to it because the "sauce" .
B) not reported injuries
c) Plenty of rest, no contest prepping, has not competed since 2008 Mr O.
d) has a track record of making improvements
e) Placings get better each time out.
f) has always come in razor sharp condition.
g) He is "The Gift"

Phil didn't need to make huge improvements from last year. A little more sweep to his quads and a touch more thickness in his back and that's it.

Last year around this time every other thread was Wolf vs. Heath, and it seemed like the board was pretty 50/50 on who their money was on. For some reason though every Wolf fan expected him to come to the Olympia looking 800x as good as he did in 07, and when he showed up looking only a little better people started jumping ship like crazy. I kept seeing comparison shots of him from 07-08 that I thought looked pretty good, and then the next 16 comments would be "wtf how did Wolf blow it so bad!!!1!@!!".
When Phil shows up at the O in a few months and isn't 300 lbs I'm sure half these "Heath fans" will post and whine, and then latch on to some other rising star until they're eventually disappointed by him too. And before someone asks if I'm mad....

No offense, but realistic?
True, everyone seems to be on the Heath bandwagon. And I think it just makes him want it more!
Face it, the man is dedicated and he's young. I'm really anxious to see what he can do this year. I think its a possibility he can win.
For you all whom say he has things to work on, of course. Everyone does. And believe me, I bet he's aware of those 'things'. He's aware of Kai , Vic, and everyone else also.
The man is working his ass off, and I think the man has a plan. Just wait and see.
Dedication + Hard work = Success

Well, huge as they are, a little touch to the shoulders wouldn't hurt either, for balance.

gains are always exponential and i really do think heath has come to a point where you couldnt put much more muscle on....
that being said ronnie proved everyone wrong there.
but yes heath just needs to work on bringing his back up more and hes got it over dex....
the rest of his body can improve slightly with overall mass and thickness im sure but as long as that brings about another few cm to his lats hes going to be unstoppable...
dexters high lats give him that illusion of being super wide over heath as well as conditioning but lets face it dexter doesnt even have calves and hes much smaller than heath...
all that being said i dont think phil will be able to knock dex off even if dex brings the same package as last year....... i would like to see it but.

think of this way..
when did he begin training/bodybuilding?
how far has he got since he began?
He has made better improvements and moved up in ranks faster than MOST guys
He is young and will only continue to grow, he is far from his Peak and one day will be reigning champ, but not this year

then you'll have to just wait and see ok. i don't see really any hype for me in mags right now, maybe on some threads, but not like in years past. this post sounds just like the ones people have made for every contest i have competed in so it is my job to work extremely hard and improve...again!

I agree, even at the DJC you won't really tell what's gonna happen since its still 8wks out and many things change with that huge time frame. maybe if it was 5 wks and i posted pics like i did for the ironman, then you'd have a better idea. like you said, wait til the Olympia.
