The Salvation Army usually does it for free. And its actually better to get hands on training plus you can also get your first aid and Bloodborne Pathagens certification as well.

But donate some money if you take the courses....like $100.00 at least

Most trainer certs require a live skills check, so if you are doing this to get or renew your PT cert, you're out of luck.

im really not sure about these online courses. sure there are many instances where they are good but for something like PT and especially giving CPR to someone you need hands on experience, not sitting behind a computer screen.

It's on the ACSM's website under requirements. "Current Adult CPR certification with a practical skills component (such as the American Heart Association or American Red Cross) "

Practical skills is a live skills check...

I was just going to add that the ACSM does require practical skills. So an online course would not cut it.

That said, I'm getting my CPR and AED certs from the Red Cross next month. Most hospitals use the Red Cross courses for their staff and they're not too expensive. $42-50 dollars. It also only takes a day.

I dont think any online CPR course would have any valuable use for a personal trainer, especially ones trying to attain a nationally recognized cert.
I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying.

This is an interesting conversation. Has anyone tried one of these "online certification" sites? I was wondering because I need to get first aid and cpr certification cards for my work. Do school districts accept online certs? Here is one that looks ok - firstaidcpronline.com, but it's hard to tell. Any input will be appreciated.

If you collapsed in the street tomorrow and needed CPR, would you prefer to be treated by someone who has done a course requiring practice on a casualty / manikin, or someone with an on - line certification?

Why did you get CPR?

If it's for a CPT cert, you should have checked for the approved providers

This website, and most online CPR classes, are about as legit as a $3 bill. Here's a quote from their FAQ page:

Can I ignore the courses and simply pay for my certification cards?
Our desire at www.firstaidcpronline.com is to facilitate a valuable service for people who visit our web site. Even though we cannot prevent you from advancing to certification without studying the online lessons or taking the quiz, you would be doing a disservice to yourself and others. Even if you already know First Aid and CPR, examining our material can be an excellent refresher course and may only take 30-60 minutes to complete.

The Red Cross, and American Heart Ass. are the only two serious organizations in the US that coordinate CPR education. Most of the online groups simply cut and paste text from ARC and AHA texts and sell it as a test of their own.

YMCA, local hospitals, fire stations, community colleges and several other locations offer legitimate hands-on CPR & AED training regularly throughout the year. Classes such as heartsaver CPR and lay-rescuer are usually about $55 in the midwest.

Exclamation What a nightmare!

I took this website's CPR course for health care professionals. My employer refused to accept the certification and I had to pay for a hands-on, AHA-approved course in addition to the CPRtoday online certification. Since the refund policy is more detailed than I cared to pursue, I wrote it off to life lessons, at least until they emailed me a feedback form, which I returned with a negative response for the above reason. Their customer service agent then threatened to sue me for libel because of the negative response, even though it was not stated in a public forum. The agent has refused to identify the associated BBB or even their home location but have continued to harass me via email in a totally unprofessionally manner ever since. It appears that I am going to have to involve a lawyer to make this childish emotionalism stop. I say RUN, don't walk from this site.

Sorry this made me laugh!! Not at you but at their own stupidity. That is in no way considered libel since not only did they ask for your opinion but you gave your opinion! Just becuase they dont like it doesnt mean they get to sue. Looks like you have a suit against them though, for harrassememt at least, but i would go so much worse on them. HA!
I would opt for sending them a "litigous nutcase" letter/email. but thats just me and I have a legal degree so im good at that kinda deal.
Besides, every website has to put up their info so its not to hard to find if you do some digging. (with mine, the person contacts yahoo and yahoo contacts me)
I would have so much fun with this!!
Sorry you have to go through it though, sounds like they blow!
