Caloric intake
I wasn't really watching calories or ratios, just basically cut carbs and started lifting again about 6 weeks ago. I dropped 18 pounds in the first 4 weeks. I dialed in the diet a bit and will admit that I am probably eating three times as much food now but the weight has stopped at 286-288. I also don't seem to be losing inches anywhere IMO. My wife says I am nuts but I feel like I am treading water the last couple weeks. I am thinking of dropping the cals down to 2500 a day. Is that too low for my size. I am not doing any cardio because I detest doing it.

Try it for 2 weeks and see. If you lose more than 6-7lbs in the 2 weeks, than you have cut too much.
A lot of people will get on here with all kinds of elaborate theories, but 2 weeks of experimenting on your own body will be the true test.

You sound exactly like my workout partner. He started at 290lbs and is currently at 286lbs after 5 months.
IMHO, cardio is a necessity for fat loss!

The first few weeks you probably lost a lot of water weight. That is what the Atkins diet does with the low carb diet. You are also probably gaining muscle as well so just up the cardio a little and keep pushing. I would not focus on weight alone.

I hope you enjoy your current weight. If you don't, you need to do some cardio and get your heart rate in the fat burning zone. Try all the machines. You should be able to find one you can tolerate. I like the elliptical.

At 407 lbs and 96 lbs ago I felt the same way. But like it or not you have to eventually step into cardio and gradually step the cardio up as the weight comes off...like it or not thats the way the game is played.
Like someone else already stated, like it or like the way your are now !!!!
I don't like cardio, but I am doing it.
I don't like " push ups/set-up" but if I wanna lose the belly it's the next step and the addition I need to reach my goal.

Be careful of how quickly you lose the weight. You'll end up with hanging skin. 4 lbs a week is way too much.
If you don't like traditional cardio (which is too bad) look into doing fat loss type weight lifting.
http://www.tmuscle.com/readArticle.do?id=1589833
In my opinion, the more fat cells your body has created above and beyond it's natural amount, the slower you should lose it. I think we've all seen pics of people who have dropped fat so fast that the skin just hangs in pouches.
Don't be in a hurry. Build some muscle mass to assist in the fat burning. Looking at your pics I am concerned that you are a candidate for the above mentioned scenario.

I just recently lost 100lbs over the last 16 months. At first the weight flew off and after a while it slowed down. Just remember that it is NOT a diet it is a lifestyle change. I changed the way I ate and thought about everything. You should cut out Alcohol, white carbs, sugars and anything processed. Some weeks I actually gained weight but lost inches. Remember it isnt a sprint it is a marathon. It took time to gain all the weight and it will take time to get it off. I still lift 4 to 5 times a week and do cardio 5 times a week. You could lift and do cardio like an animal but DIET is the key.But you must do them all (including cardio). You might want to talk to someone who really knows nutrition (I did recently) and it has helped tremendously. You have to know what you are putting in your body and the affects it has on it. Keep working hard and NEVER give up. If I can do it anyone can.
Good luck.

Probably a lot of water, each gram of carbohydrate has 3 grams of water bound to it. Every time I've played with Keto I would instantly drop 6 lbs within a few days.

I dont think 2500 is to low for your size at all......calories needed should be based off LEAN body mass, not fat mass. As fat only burns 1-2 calories per Lb/ Per day. while muscle can burn up to 40-50 calories perday per Lb.

Thanks for the replys. I had a BF analysis done a while back and honestly think I have added some muscle since that time but also about 60 pounds. At that time I had 189 pounds of lean mass. I think I am just extremely impatient. I will find some cardio I like ( love judo/ jujitsu / sub wrestling. But that's hard to do by yourself lol). Will leave the calories alone for now and see what the cardio accomplishes. I have a schwinn airedyne and wife has a health rider but I hate them both. Guess I have to grit my teeth and " JUST DO IT".

Ok, OHIO Steve, I just can't hold myself back any longer.
Dude, you've been a member here longer than the vast majority here (2001). Yet, when I finally joined in 06', I personally witnessed you come and go like the seasons of the year. You still, repeat this pathetic process every 6mths or so.
For years, it was, 'I'm back, and I'm serious this time" (people can check your post history to confirm).
My beef? While others will give you a pass and congratulate you on your perseverance, I'll be the first to tell you to get the f'ck out...and quit wasting other people's time with your never ending commitment...to never commit.
OK, I'm done.

I don't find that harsh at all, in fact I would expect to hear the same thing. The last thing I need is someone easing up on me and giving me the easy way out. The tuffin up or get out is exactly what I need.
Few years ago I posted here and lost 50 plus pounds, lifting a routine and dieting on a low carb diet. I burned out and quit after 5 months and ballooned past what I originally was.
This time im at 96-98 lbs lost and 9 month and 77 lbs to go and I am not quitting even if my other hand get ripped off..... not this time

You are free to not read anything I post. Your tirade is correct but incomplete. I haven't just started and stopped over and over again. I have had some injuries off and on. Excuses sure but legit. Sorry my presence offends you but I'm sure you'll get over it. If not oh well.

The more I think about a couple of the replys the more pissed off I get. Who the f##k are you to criticize me? You don't know me. For the person who said I was looking for a shoulder because it was easier than training and diet, you don't know anything about me. At 37-38 I weighed 325 pounds. By 40 I weighed 231 pounds and had EARNED a brown belt in judo, fought a tourney and won it ( small local) studied some jujitsu and submission wrestling. At 40 I was offered a cage match and I accepted. 2 days later a bar with 400 pounds on it rolled forward while I was doing dead lift reps. I tried to lift it anyway and tore my back up. 6 months I could only lay flat or stand straight. It is better but not fixed with a degenerative disc, scoliosis, and damaged discs. So don't assume I just start and stop due to laziness , some is but some is a bad back and knees that have bad cartalige(sp) damage that have both had surgery for torn meniscus'.
To those who offered advice thank you to those who criticized, oh well, if you don't like what I post feel free to not read it.

I think the bottom line solution is this:
Your diet is going to have to be focused, your training consistent, and, yes, a solid boatload of cardio is going to have to be done as well.
