New to Muay Thai

Im a powerlifter, lots of strength but knowing how to use it would be nice!

I have been to 2 classes so far and lets just say i hate it when im there (at points, mostly because the abundance of cardio) but love it when im learning new stuff and at home waiting for the next class. I cant say yet but i dont know what it is that keeps me coming back to the club. I guess i just like a challenge? anyone else feel like that or do you just like fighting?

Anyways...

Anyone here a powerlifter or bodybuilder and practice MMA or muay thai? how did you find it affect your weight lifting? because i lift nationally and im not giving that up. And how is your all over experience with muay thai?

I do MMA, I was a powerlifter and I do dabble in Muay Thai a bit.

Personally, my weight lifting took a back seat, I just got sucked in to MMA, and I wanted to reduce the rate of injures (main MA is BJJ). My elbows and shoulders already taking a beating, dont need benching anything over 2 plates to make it any worse.

Was powerlifting before starting MT (during 4 years) and I tried to keep up the first 1-2 months and that burned me out even if I dropped the intensity. I ended up dropping lifting completely for a few months and MT became a priority.

It's probably possible to maintain strength but I don't think it's possible to keep breaking PR on squats while you burn out your legs day after day in training.
