First step on (partially) tearing a bicep?

Before even seeing the Doctor is there something that one can do? I tore it high up near where it attaches to the shoulder. An incomplete tear so not sure if they will consider surgury.
Obviously don't load it. Sling it? Ice? I guess you would not want to straighten the arm either because that might just tear more. Anyone?
I did it while sparring which is odd, because I have BB for 20 years with only one bad tear. Hitting my late 40s now so maybe not as much elasticity.

I have read you should maybe try to massage it down flat to encourage it to reattach near it's full length. What about NSAIDS, not for the pain as much as the anti inflammatory affect?
