excercises you can do are like back extensions which is done on a specific kind of bench (not sure of the name)

should you do lower back stuff-definitely...but since you have scoliosis i have no idea if you should, I am not a doctor ha. I would ask a doctor personally. But i think the lower back is one of the most important muscle that needs to be worked. If your lower back is not up to par, then your lifts on compound exercises (bench, squat, obviously deadlift, etc) will not be very good.

but seriously, ask a doctor...

What does the fact you're 17 have to do with anything?

Maybe because he is still growing. That is the only thing I am able to think of, but I am not sure how this would effect him

Yes. Form is even more important.

FWIW, Lamar Gant, 15 time IPF (International Powerlifting Federation) world champ had extreme scoliosis. His deadlift record is still on the books, and is the only man to not only have pulled 5x his bodyweight, he did it in two different weight classes.

I wouldn't necessarily ask a doctor. Doctor's have this magnificent way of erring on the side of extreme caution. I'm often impressed I'm not told to wear football pads and lift 2lb dbs in one of those Chuck-E-Cheez ball pits just to be on the safe side.

You DO need to seek the advice of a professional, but in this case I would look into a little phone consult with a physical therapist or at least a doctor that also trains and has some understanding of weights beyond "weight = danger"

I also have scoliosis and i think working your lower back will help with the pain associated with scoliosis aswell as making your back look straiter, like help you stand more erect id say like hyperextensions are good and maybe instead of doing heavy deadlifts i like to keep the weight light and keep my back perfectly strait and use real good form for about 10-12 good reps.
