Does not matter. The AK tolerances are loose, thats why they are so reliable. Only worry if it fails to feed.

this here, but i suppose use common sense. If its extremely loose could have an issue. Does it fire alright?

We need more AK threads. Seriously, why does the AK not get much love on the forum?

it's fine
it's only function is to cycle the bolt, so if it does that, you're fine.

You guys are funny. I love ARs as much as the next guy but I have faith that I can put 10,000 rounds through any one of my AKs without cleaning them and they will not fail me. Can you say the same for ARs?
Let me guess your responses:
"What practical situation would you need to shoot that many rounds?" I hope we never find out.
"ARs are a lot more accurate and are more ergonomic." More ergonomic, sure. More accurate, to a certain point. I can make hits all day long with both my high end 74s at 400m on a human silhouette, that's plenty accurate.
It's a give and take, I love them both and that's why I own multiples of both. If SHTF and I didn't know where I was going to be from one minute to the next the AK would come with me, not the AR.

You know I love joshin' the AK people.
The real reason I don't like AKs is pretty simple: there are a lot of very simple improvements that could eliminate what I see as outdated in the Kalashnikov design, like the sights, safety, mag release, etc., and they would be easy to do. Unfortunately nobody's done it.
I've fired an AK that was rigged to be a racegun with all the ergonomics fixed up (Aimpoint on a gas tube mount, proper pistol grip, extended mag release...). Not my *favorite* gun on the planet but much easier to run than a stock AK.

you cant put 10k through an ak. if you have to put 10k rounds through a rifle without rest your bbl and you are long gone by then. all i want to do is talk realistic.
i get your point and agree. but 10k isnt realistic. 1k is the absolute most i would go in a fighting situation without at least cleaning out the piston/gas port. and running an oily rag down the barrel.
i dont think anyone will say an ar with di is more reliable than an ak. but i will say i prefer a di ar over a piston ak all day everyday unless im using my weapon as a paddle or shovel, which i dont plan to. i love my aks but if shtf in the real world im bringing an ar for me, one for my buddy and a fukton of mags. you also didnt mention the huge differences in weight between the rounds, which is a big player.

You know not of what you speak. I never said anything about putting 10,000 rounds through the gun in one setting. I'm sure we can all play out different scenarios of how TEOTWAWKI will go down, but I'm not very enthusiastic about relying on theory when choosing a weapon that my life may depend on.
If I am trying to survive and have to fight for my life and be on the move every few hours(possibly for months/years), I may not have time to clean my AR every 300-600 rounds. I take comfort in knowing that when I pull the trigger on my AK it will definitely go boom. Can you say the same for a AR with even a 1000 rounds through it?
As far as the weight of the round, read my post. I am speaking of the AK74 and the bullet weight is very comparable to the 5.56. In fact I would bet that one of my AK74s fully loaded would weight about a pound less than a tricked out tacticool AR.

Definately don't need to clean an AR every 600 rounds. Maybe 1,000 - 1,500 if it's properly oiled.

Okay, my position stays the same just change the numbers. I don't ever have to clean my AK74 if I don't want to and it will run. Plus if my life is on the line I don't want to have to wait until it starts to FTF before I know it needs cleaned.

Point me in the right direction for a decent AK74.

True. But nomatter how bad the situation, you will almost always have time to clean your gun.
You really don't fire nearly as much in a war as you would think. Most of the stoppages I saw were from sand crapping up peoples' guns before they'd fired a single round. The most important thing is discipline in keeping your weapon out of the sand, and even an AK will choke with sand in it.

Ohio Rapid Fire. Check out their site. It's what he recommended to me as well.

Here's where I got the one in my avatar. http://rapidfire.targetweb.net/cgi-b...m=on&ppinc=big
I took it out shooting today/tonight. I was shooting wolf(with a steel core) through it at the 200m and 300m metal plates and all of a sudden my friend said "WTF was that!?" The sun had just went down and every time I hit a plate sparks exploded up to 50 feet from the target. It was fukin awesome looking. I'm going out again on wed and will try to get some video of said sparks.
Nuggz I hear you and I don't mean to come of as badmouthing ARs, I own 8 of them. I love them and I think in many areas they outshine the AK but for situation where the future is unknown I personally feel more comfortable with a AK. In ANY other situation I would likely choose a AR. Tomaato tomato. The good thing about the US is we can have both ....for now. :/
