If the bullet is shot straight towards the ground then the fired one will obviously. They both have same mass, same shape so air fricition is pretty much negligible. The fired bullet starts off at a much higher velocity and acceleration adds to that, whereas the dropped one starts slower.


edit: however as said, if you do shoot the gun horizontally they will both fall at the exact same time as the horizontal and vertical velocities are completely independant of each other, and we all know gravity acts in the vertical direction

No matter what, the shot bullet will land first. Even if you shoot/drop from 3 miles above earth.

Yes, eventually the shot bullet will slow to terminal volocity and travel at the same speed as the dropped bullet, but the shot bullet will have traveled much faster towards the ground until it reaches terminal volocity. by the time they are traveling at the same speed the bullets will have great distance between them.

no you alla re dumb as ****... if you shoot horizontally the bullet is in essence flying, so you shoot at say 3 feet the bullet will go a mile before it hits the grand pn a perfectly flat surface and the bullet you jand dropped will have fallen much faster. Imagine a frisbee in each hand, drop one from three feet and throw one from three feet and the one you throw will fly for a far longer time than the one you drop.

no actually any system with no air friction ONE EXAMPLE BEING THE MOON , they've done this in vacuum's ON EARTH where they've dropped objects of completely different masses at the same height yet still fall at the exact same time.

They would hit the ground at the same time horizontal velocity is independent of vertical velocity brah that is why you can take the time from a vertical velocity equation and plug it into a horizontal velocity equation

But if you are dropping/shooting horizontally identical objects (like the bullets in question) they will reach the ground at the same time.

Horizontal speed (0 for the falling, hundreds of feet per second for the shooting bullet) and acceleration is completely independent of vertical speed (initially 0 for both) and acceleration (~32 ft/s^2 for both).
