Best Charging option: per hour or per session??
I'm just starting to do more personal training outside of a gym (contractual) setting. My question is whether anybody has comments on the best approach for charging clients.
My concern is that, which has happened in the past, when I charge per hour i alway feel like i'm expected to go for at least an hour but yet not charge extra if i go 15mins over, for example. Was wondering if anybody has had luck in just charging a flat rate per session regardless if the session took 50mins or 70mins long (keeping in mind that i would explain to the client that i target most sessions around a specific time period)?

IMO, I'd go for per session.
I don't know how much you charge, but i.e $60/hr, that's $1/min, and if they went 75 minutes, that should equate to $75, but it wouldn't.

Well thats what i kinda figure too. By charging per session, over numerous sessions, it would more or less work out to getting paid for a predetermined period of time (ie one hour) without the hassel of asking for 7 dollars extra because we went over time. And i figure that way there would be less pressure to construct a program down the exact minute.

Charge per session. When you list per hour, people actually think you make 60-70 dollars an hour for 8 hours a day. It might be true but it tends to scare people off

definitley charge per session. I explain that each session goes for 50-60 minutes depending on what is happening during the sesison. Get them into the midset they are coming for a session worth of training and not 60mins otherwise you will get those who watch the clock and want every last second out of you and more (not always bad). Explain you might do 45mins and be totally exhuasted one session whereas you may go a little bit over the next.

I think the verdict is in.
I have actually never heard of any trainers charging their clients by the hour and if there are any I'd like to hear how it went.
