LilRed's Journal
I know...boring title, right? Creativity clearly isn't one of my strengths.
Well, here I am. You can usually find me in the Rant, or elsewhere in the Female Misc. I also tend to lurk/gather knowledge in the training and/or nutrition sections. I guess I should start off with some background information on myself, huh?
I'm 23 years old, standing at a towering 4'11" and weighing 117 pounds. I've always been an athletic girl. I played soccer starting at age 8. I was hooked once I started. During high school I played varsity all 4 years and also played on a classic team. I played both midfield and forward, but more at midfield. I also ran track in high school, grades 10-12 (100 m hurdles, 300 m. hurdles, 4x1 and 4x2 - this may explain my legs ) Hurdles?? Yeah I know you're thinking that! Actually I was pretty decent - county champ, conference champ, and #4 in my region of the state. I loved both of these sports very much. I was offered soccer scholarships to a handful of smaller schools, which was awesome, but unfortunately not to the one school I had been dying to go to forever...So, that unfortunately ended my competitive days of playing.
I've been lifting weights since the 9th grade - I started then, as my high school soccer team trained during the offseason. I loved it so much, I took weightlifting as a class during the school year.
So here I am now...still lifting and trying to be active and in shape! I currently work out with a friend of mine....who just happens to be a trainer at another gym in town. Luckily for me, he enjoys working out/guiding me while he's on his second job at my gym (doing sales) He is competing in October, so I feel very confident in what he has me do. I've actually been working out with him for a few weeks, but just decided to start my journal, so I can keep track of what it is I'm doing. Last week he started talking about how he would like for me to consider doing a figure competition. The wheels in my head are spinning...but who knows!?
My diet is my weakness...but I'm learning to curb it. For me, I may not eat as clean as many of you...but personally I want to be able to enjoy my food, while maintaining a balanced, healthy diet. Eating out/fast food are rare occasions - so I don't mean I eat like that all the time. In fact, a friend of mine was over last weekend, walked into my kitchen, looked around and said "You don't have any junk food for me to eat." Depending on what my goals turn into....I'm sure this will be changing
Well, I believe that's about it for an introduction, although I'm sure several of you already know these things . Got questions? Ask away.

CHEST DAY
Just got back from the gym. Chest is my least favorite workout of all. I hate it because I'm weak, yet I'm weak because I hate it. It's a never-ending cycle. My left arm gets very fatigued when I do chest, partly because of an old injury - my elbow can only take so many presses/extensions. Back in high school, I had a nasty freak-accident on the soccer field, and tore the muscles, tendons and ligaments in my elbow. Painful, to say the least. So, today we worked on getting lots of reps in.
15 minute walk, warm-up
(bare with me, some of these things, I'm not sure what to call them)
Smith Machine Bench:
25x65
20x70
15x75
10x85
Machine Incline - (I don't know what the weight for this is, without any plates?)
25x5 on each side
20x7.5 on each side
15x10 on each side
10x10 on each side
Machine Decline
25x5 on each side
20x7.5 on each side
15x10
10x10
Flies (machine)
20x30
15x35
12x40
10x40
Straight-Flat Press (1 arm at a time)
20x20
20x20
Incline Press (1 arm at a time)
20x20
20x20
Pushups
17 (exhaustion)
12 (exhaustion)
10 minutes on the eliptical (I was gonna do 20, but my calf started to pull, and I don't want to make it revert to the way it was this weekend!)
So there we have it for today. I guess it would be more helpful if I really do learn the names of those. I don't like those numbers Warren wants me to use the machines when I do my chest, I suppose because I'm weaker there, moreso than other areas - because we don't use machines for any other body part.
So overall an ok day - as good as it can be, considering it's my least favorite. Glad to have it over with for another week!
GOOD NEWS - my eye candy trainer is back! He decided not to take the other job and was back today...ahhhh....
Well tomorrow is shoulders...Warren told me to eat well tonight and tomorrow because he's going to shock me pretty good tomorrow! Oh no!/yay!

I am the same way with my chest!!!! I hate that it's weak and I hate training it. That looks like a good workout!
Oh, and I make up names for the exercises all the time. I figure I need to DO them, it doesn't matter what they are called.

Same here. On both points.
Yay for gym eye candy. I don't get much of that at my women's only gym.

Good morning! So I've got an exciting weekend coming together! My old high school soccer team is playing in the state 3-A Championship game this weekend in Raleigh at NC State. Playing for that team was awesome, and so I can't wait to go watch and support my old coach. He was my coach starting at age 9 all the way through high school, and I'm so glad that he's finally made it to the final game. Our best run ended at state quarterfinals. It's funny though, because being from a small town certainly affects you for a long time - all of my old teammates are just as happy and supportive. Even being 6 years out of high school (and some who are even older), we still share the excitement and joy because we were/are still a close-knit "family." All of our fb statuses are updated about KM soccer - it just sticks with you! Kings Mountain is sending up a charter bus for fans and students to ride on. My parents are coming up to watch, too. Good luck Coach Potter and KM girls!!
This weekend is also the NC AG fest...which means there will be a bbq cookoff. Yes, I will indulge

Honestly I'm not sure why. The rest of my workouts do not use nearly as many machines, but the guy I work with has suggested these for my chest. Maybe I should actually find out?? lol

LOL.
I tend to steer away from the machines. DB's are my fav
piece of equipment.
Ask the guy, he prolly has a good reason.
Either way, nice w/o.

SHOULDERS
Know what I hate about doing high reps? It makes me feel weak! Who wants to lift 5 pound weights when you KNOW you can lift more (doing fewer reps, of course)? So, shoulders is my second least favorite day, but it's over with now!
Warm-Up
20 minute walk
Shoulder Press (machine)
15x35
12x50
10x65
8x65
Straightbar (semi-close grip) Shoulder Press
20x20
20x20
20x20
Straightbar Upright Row
15x20
20x20
25x20
DB Lat Raise
15x5
20x5
20x5
20x5
DB Front Raise
15x5
20x5
20x5
DB Rear Delt Raise
20x5
20x5
20x5
So yeah, gotta admit, using 5 pound weights is kind of a blow to my ego, since I at least like to think I'm strong. But I guess it takes work to be strong!
At the end of my workout, I'm stretching in the part of the gym designated for that, and another girl comes over and starts stretching. I look up again and realize she took her shoes off. GROSS! People are bent over, in close proximities, and you want to take your shoes off?
I'm going to make a protein pancake in the morning....excited to see how it turns out! Hopefully it's yummy!

Hey neighbor! I'm not too far up the road in Hampton.
Yeah, what's with the 15 reps? I know some of the OV35 put on mass doing higher reps, but I don't think they were pyramiding down to 8. Oh well, if it works, it works
Chest is my weakest too. I suspect your friend has you on machines more due to your previous injury. Or not. I'll always do bb press but if a bench isn't free the rest of my exercises are on the machines. Otherwise it's the db's.
Enjoy!

LOL actually last night I got confused when I was typing it. I was looking at it like "did i do it backwards?" But I was hungry....so I went through it fast and said screw it if I'm wrong ....but now that I look back, I did it this way on my first entry too, so maybe I'm just wrong all the time?
