How long until sodium (salt) leaves the body?

So starting today, I am no longer going to add ANY sodium or salt to any of my foods. I know it won't add fat, but it will retain water which in excess can look like alot of extra fat on my body. I want to see what I will look like after salt leaves the body, and so does the retained water. How long will it take for the salt and retained water to leave my body. I am still drinkong >1galon of water a day.
A year from now, you値l wish you started today.

A day or two? You'll notice a large number difference in the scale that will be water fluctuations.

No definite answer but that seems reasonable.

What does the dandelion root do? I'm looking up information on it now, but I don't see anything about it removing sodium from the body.

It makes you piss more. Sodium holds onto water...

Less water = less bloated. Dandelion helps you piss more, removes water... problem sovled...

Whew, I don't think I want to take that then. I piss every 20 minutes as it is now, when I am drinking like 1.5-2 gallons of water each day.

    Thanks for the info though...

Haha, on a low carb diet I found a "trick". Stop drinking liquid 3 hours before bedtime. If I drank any liquid after that time I'd wake up so many times a night to take leaks. Doing this has helped me sleep a lot but...I wonder if the lack of liquid could be hindering fat loss not that I've had that. Just some thoughts.

I'd be willing to say that 95% of people on this forum accomplish nothing in years, don't be one of those people. It's sad, they seem to have the knowledge many don't but can't utilize it.

Yeah, I considered that before, but I am so used to waking up at least 2 times durring the night now that it really dosen't bother me as much as it used to. I usually drunk less a few hours before sleep, but don't stop completely.

I'd also say the 48-72 hour range... but that's if you ate a buttload of sodium.
ahhh... moderation you've gotten the best of me.

Lol, alright, I will post. I didn't have any added salt today, which was a total bitch, and I drank a little over 1.75 gallons of water, but not quite 2 gallons. I am wondering if I will notice any physical differences on me, and how much it will effect the scale's readings. I will post my results though, hopefully they will be good ones!

Dude, at your weight the last thing you should be worried about is water weight haha. Unless you're very low in body fat and wanting to see what you look like in competition form then don't worry about water weight. It'll come right back if you take a diuretic to get rid of it. I never understood why people with high levels of body fat were so concerned with excess water weight anyhow. Will you look better with less water weight? Probably but not a substantial amount.

Well if you don't want that to happen you need to keep everything consistent. That means diet and activity, it wouldn't be easy.

Sodium isn't that big of a deal, believe me. You probably consume lots of carbs. If I cut carbs and keep sodium high I'll still purge the majority of my water weight. Sodium is not a big problem seriously. Besides, once you consume carbs or sodium again you'll gain it all back. Losing weight isn't important, it's just a number. Losing weight from fat loss is great though and that won't come back from consuming a bit of carbs or sodium. Weight might but the fat won't.

Yes, I did have a ton of sodium in my diet. I would use Tapatio hot sauce which has sodium of 110mg/1tsp. And I would use ALOT more than 1 teaspoon, probabally at least 10x that. And then, my eggs in the morning, covered in salt and pepper, then with chicken, covered in garlic salt. Salt was my way to make the bland food taste that much better, but got out of hand, not no more. It has only been one day and I weighed myself in the morning and I did lost a few LBS if retained water weight compared to yesterday's reading. I am going to go 2 weeks with NO SALT ADDED and see how I do, then after that I will hopefully be able to use it in moderation.

If you need something to add to your food try Mrs. dash there is no salt added and it's a great spice for everything. Use garlic powder in place of garlic salt. I tried this out with my chicken last night:
Coat one chicken breast with an egg white, roll it in oats to cover. Use Pam cooking spray on a flat pan and pop it in the oven. Enjoy
Diet is at least 80% of the game and no workout routine will compensate for a crap diet. T

Sodium is not your problem. Maybe if your 2 weeks from competition yea than cut it out.

    Some easy tips to help:

Buy Ms. Dash seasonings and marinades SALT-FREE use as much as you want

For eggs: just eat them! there are a lot of other worse things like plain chicken you have to worry about. You will get used to the plain eggs and realize it isnt that bad at all.

You should worry about losing fat and not water weight, you're not that lean yet. When you get really lean and want to be in competition shape worry about it, until then, don't.

Garlic is delicious but the breath you get from it is killer. It takes me like 3 cycles of brushing and mouth wash to kill it!

Eh, I wouldn't say it's that needed. I went a month without consuming any added sodium. The only thing I consumed was plain chicken which has a little bit of sodium in it. But yea, processed foods are pretty bad and beef jerky is a real killer as far as sodium goes in food.

Being fat is their problem and worrying about a stupid number on the scale. I can't believe these guys are worried about 10 pounds of water weight when they have fairly high levels of body fat, it's just silly IN MY OPINION.

I'm not cutting it out, I'm just not adding any more to foods. I realize that many foods do have sodium in it, I am just not going to add.
