Is an EZ-curl bar better than using dumbbells for bicep training?

For example instead of doing like 5 sets of bicep curls with dumbbells, would it be more effective to do 5 sets w/ an EZ-curl bar?

It seems that my biceps hurt A LOT more when I use one.

If you have wrist issues then yes, the EZ bar is your friend.

It's also good for targeting the inner and outer heads.

Both are fine, and, depending upon the feedback you receive from each, a preference may be justified.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

I do 5 sets w/ curls than finish with 2 sets of 21s

Depending on the amount of weight applied, I sometimes do 3sets of curls and than 2 sets of 21s.

Thats really it for Biceps i'm not sure what else to do.

Alrite, thanks man. with DBs i seem to use my body more even when I try not to. Especially on the final reps.

their are a bunch of different exercises for bi's that you can do with both ez bar and dumbells. you want to make sure to hit both the inner and outer bicep as well as changing up the exercises from time to time to keep the body from adapting to the specific movement. check it out -> http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exer...nMuscle=Biceps

Honestly, I've never gotten a good pump or anything out of barbell curls, and I feel a ton of 'bad' pain in my elbows and wrists after doing them, even switching my grip distance around. I've just come to realize that me and bb curls don't get along, so I use the EZ curl bar instead and alternate between that and dumbbells for freeweight work.

I prefer DBs so each arm depends on itself and one wont be getting cheated by getting help from the other.

I use both, but get plenty of DB use for all upper body parts.

exactly: it is all about COMFORT level when doing curls...for many, EZ bars are kinder to the wrists and such......

doesn't necessarily make them "better" than DBs, just different.....

I read an article that said that EZ curl bars take some of the pressure of your biceps, so it's not as good as a barbell curl...but I take that with a grain of salt. It's just an article and there are tons of articles out there saying different things. Personally, I don't have a EZ curl bar, so I use barbell and dumbells. I like dumbbell more though.

I do my biceps work out like this:

7 sets alternating dumbell curls (while standing)
    6 sets machine preacher curls
6-7 sets rope curls on the cable machine

If I have energy I will do some light curls on one of those Freemotion cable machines!

Seems to have worked for me so far.

This, you most likely felt it more now from the EZ bar because your muscles are use to using DBs. Switch it up, keep shocking your muscles and you will see results. They are both great ways to train bi's.

PS: There are so many different ways to do curls w/ DBs, try something new

when doing rope curls, do you do them like a hammer curl or do you twist the rope so your palms face up at the top of the movement?

I've found ez curl bars really good and i like all the variations, one problem i have is imbalances between arms, so i find myself using dumbbells for bicep work most of the time.

i hop around between db's, ez bar, and straight bar. ez bar hurts my elbows, straight bar hurts my wrists. so i pick my poison. it's all good.

lately i've been doing 3 sets of straight bar, and finish with one drop set of db's. i'm liking the results so far.

is it really necessary to hit small groups like biceps/triceps with alot of volume, i see guys doing 5sets total for biceps like said above the 3sets on BBcurls and then 2sets of 21's, now 21's are intense id say. But would that be enough to hit that specific muscle group, or most of you guys do more?
ive been advised 5 sets 1x a week then others say 10-12sets 1x a week

I usually work my biceps until I cant lift my arms. Thats when I know i've done enough.

And that usually for me occurs between 8-10 sets
    900+ every time.

i try to open up when I get to the top, but then when the weights start getting heavy that becomes a challenge! My main concern is to keep the movement going and getting the best pump when I'm doing rope curls!

and the person who advised you is how old? and then see your age........

at 16, you DON'T want to pound your body into submission yet.....

after a few years, you will have to do more for biceps for them to continue to grow......
