Does anyone have any articles on the benefit of using baking soda as a lactic acid buffer, much like beta alanine does, to increase anaerobic performance?
Lactic acid does not directly create acidosis in the body, but it does lower the pH levels some in the body. I am starting to experiment more with ergogenic type supplements preworkout to increase performance.

In general, those events in which lactic acid accumulation is typically a limiting factor seem to respond well to bicarbonate loading. Athletes competing in running events from 400 ? 1500 meters, swimming events of 100-200 meters, track cycling 1-5 kilometers and rowing events (2000 meters) have all shown significant improvements in performance following pre-event loading with sodium bicarbonate.

There is quite a bit of research with its use. It does however come with some unpleasant GI side effects.

if i remember correctly, Sodium Bicarbonate will also buffer stomach acids, making a high protein diet a nightmare, (stomach gas and cramping due to the fact there is not sufficient stomach acid to break protein down before it moves through the digestive tract), so supplement your Sodium Bicarbonate away from protein intake.

Yeah there might be safer ways to lower the pH level in your body than that.

from what i remember certain power lifters and sprinters would take it before events for that extra edge. . . and then sit themselves down on the toilet for much longer
