    Is oatmeal bad for you?

My mother is convinced oatmeal is not good when I'm trying to cut cause it's high in fat.

    thoughts?

I usually have about 1/2 cup (dry measured) so about a cup when it's cooked.

High in fat???? 1/2 cup of oatmeal only has about 3 grams of fat. Even if it did have a higher fat content, there is nothing wrong with fat during a cut. I usually have 75-90 grams a day.

I wouldn't consider 3g of fat in a 1/2 cup dry measured to be "high". I am on a cut and I eat it every morning.

LMAO - oatmeal being bad for you because it is high in fat is almost as funny as bananas being bad for you because they are high in sugar...except oatmeal really doesn't even have much fat, as pointed out above.

OP - what would your mom say if you ate salmon, or nuts, or put some EVOO in a salad?

Oatmeal is fine, great carbs too. I usually have 80g in the morning, and another 40g blended in my post workout shake.

LOL....oats are carb foundation of my diet. I'm probably a little leaner than your Mom.

Doubling my oatmeal in the morning from 40g (1/2 cup) to 80g (1 cup) somehow curbed my craving for bacon (serious). I guess it's because I now feel more satisfied in the mornings.

Take 80g of oats, 6 oz of yogurt, 6 egg whites, and put them in a blender. Makes some pretty good oatmeal pancakes. (39g protein, 70g carbs, 6g fat)

I would skip the pre-packaged flavored oats and go with what it sounds like your eating plain oats. Good for you and there are so many different things you can do with them. There like eggs except it doesn't rhyme when I say the incredible edible oatmeal.

    x2, read the nutrition label

That's the only way you know what you're eating - otherwise foods that you may consider "healthy" may actually end up being worse than you thought. "12 Grain" breads are notorious for this with their 200 cal+ content per slice.

    Here's what I eat: 2.5oz Oatmeal/tsp peanut butter/scoop vanilla whey/tsp honey/dash of cinnamon.

can be made in a traditional bowl, cooked and eaten, or blended in a cup and drank.

I think this is another troll thread =/ So many stupid threads it's crazy. We need more mod action around these here parts...
"Everyone thinks they're on their way to single digit body fat as soon as they see a blurry four-pack in the right lighting.Your final body weight at 5-6% will be a lot less than what you think.Talk to me again when you get in contest shape." I'd be willing to say that 95% of people on this forum accomplish nothing in years, don't be one of those people. It's sad, they seem to have the knowledge many don't but can't utilize it.

Oatmeal is good. It is not "high in fat." OK, what if it's filled with almonds and maybe some milk, adding some fat to it? Yeah... Still good.

P.S. Eating fat won't necessarily make you fat. Consuming too many overall calories will make you fat.

"When we're in the gym, we're in this indescribable euphoria zone. It's a feeling of being on, of being completely alive and aware. If you haven't been there, then it's like trying to describe color to a person who's been blind since birth. Within this haze of pleasure and pain, there's knowledge and power, self-discipline and self-reliance."
