It depends on what genre you like. Once you find that song that you can listen to hundreds of times and it never gets old, then you have it.

The power of music
This Is A Very Interesting Thread.
From those that replied it is apparent that there are many individual differences present in the music (if used) that people listen to when lifting. Accordingly, I would suggest that the power of music is largely mediated by personal preference.
Secondly, there is a great opportunity for everybody to use music as a pre-performance motivator. After a long day in the office or an early morning start the pronounced beat of a preferred track can invigorate, energise and even inspire us.
A few examples:
- “For an hour-and-a-half between the Olympic semi-final and final I just lay on a couch and listened to the same Craig David song, ‘Rendez-Vous’ over and over again”
(Darren Campbell, 200m Olympic Silver Medallist)
- “I listened to Japanese classical music as a means to induce relaxation and focus rather than aggression” (Audley Harrison, Olympic superheavyweight boxing)
The point is, we are all different, find what motivates you and use that source on the way to the gym for 5-10 minutes. Below are a few tips which outline what can help make the music you use effective and INCREASE YOUR RESULTS!
1) There is a fit between the tempo and your expected HR
2) Lyrics which include affirmations of activity “i.e. Roy Jones Can’t be touched posted by ICELAND 93”
3) The volume should not be disrupted by environmental noise
4) There is a fit between the rhythm of the tune with nature of activity

Probably a bit different to everybody else's choices but my favourite are as follows;
The black angels - young men dead
The underground youth - Morning son
The velvet underground - I'm waiting for the man
Motörhead - Motörhead
CCR - Run through the jungle
Aswell as loads of stuff by Hawkwind
I would post links but I'm on my iPad and cannot, plus like I said its a bit different to mists tastes, I prefer a slow but powerful tempo, drum and bass and dub step and other types of music just do nothing for me.

I love seeing that other people are working out to the exact same music as me! Gotta blast my headphones, I enjoy the crazy adrenalin from that just as much as the workout itself, helps me go beast mode and really concentrate! I can workout without it, but if my gym is playing some ****ty Florence the Machine or something it really distracts me. And people standing around BS'ing distracts me too.
For cardio I tend to go with hip hop or electro stuff, slower chiller beats I can match my pace to. Lately, podcasts have been a great way to pass some low intensity cardio (running is so boring for me, throw on a good Joe Rogan podcast helps a lot).
For the weights I usually gotta go heavy, there's a lot of good lists here so I just wanna mention a few:
Deftones - this is one of my go to's - heavy and melodic without the constant barrage of double bass drums that can tire me out sometimes
Chiodos, Atreyu, Anberlin, Alien Ant Farm, Fall of Troy, Funeral for a Friend, Korn, Machine Head, Protest the Hero, Snapcase, Thrice
