Workplace relationships

Lets say two people work for the same company.. Its a huge, nationwide company with something like 85,000 employees. "Person A" is on the senior management team for a three state region, and "Person B" is on a local technical staff. These two people don't even work in the same building and their jobs have nothing to do with each other. But because of "Person A's" job they have been keeping their relationship a secret.. Supposedly "Person A" can get fired for having a relationship with anyone in the same company who isn't on the leadership team..

My question is, is this legal?

Can a company - any company, LEGALLY tell two consenting adults what they can do with their spare time? Or is there more to this?

Reps for serious answers.

yeah im pretty sure the company can do that as long as there is a non-fraternization policy written into the code of conduct. if so, then they can hold you accountable for screwing around with your co-workers. people still do it obviously, it just depends on how smart they are about it, and how mature seeing as how there have been blowups when the relationship goes bad (although you did mention that they dont work in the same building.

my company doesnt have the policy so people can get down and dirty with anybody.

they are just saying that they reserve the right to punish you up to termination for violating the rule. the law doesnt look down on this policy

Like blaqsand said, if its in your work contract with the company, then u have no choice but to oblige, but if its not, they dont have legal permission to do so.

See thats the thing.. I would be "Person B" in this situation and I've never seen anything like that. Now if she were in my supervisory chain then I could certainly understand it, but she's not. Something is amiss and I'm getting pretty tired of hearing "I'm on the senior staff" as an excuse..

hmm i dont think i get it
so she is saying that she is having a hard time continuing the relationship because she is on the senior staff?
In this situation she really does have ALOT to lose because if **** hit the fan, they would force her into resignation.
