NY Pro Pre-Judging Review
Lets start with the 202 class:
This one I will get right to the meat of the matter and compare the top two guys. In my eyes it's a battle between East vs. West: Kevin English vs. David Henry.
Symmetry Round: Even... or, it could go either direction. Two completely different physiques. It's all up the eyes of the judges. Personally I would say they are dead even after this round.
Muscularity round (pose for pose):
Front Double Bicep: EVEN! (too close to call.. both very impressive)
Front Lat Spread: KEVIN! (again very very close but I just think Kevin looks freakier than Henry)
Side Chest: KEVIN! ( God Damn these two are close but Kevin is a bit harder and more developed in the leg department especially the hams)
Back Double Bicep: HENRY! (once again close but Henry has the back thickness that Kevin Lacks)
Back Lat Spread: EVEN! (Too close to call.. both look great in this shot)
Side Tricep: KEVIN! (Again.. Hams are much more developed and everything else was even)
Ab/Thigh: HENRY! (Very tight mid-section with zero distension)
Most Muscular: DEAD EVEN! (these two are just too close to put one ahead of the other)
CONCLUSION: I would put Kevin ahead in this round by 1 point.
The guy that comes back tonight and rocks the house will take this title.. It should be a good one.
NY Pro OPEN:
I'll go with my top 6:
6th: Darrem: It was very close between him and Hida but hida edged him out with a better overall package. It could go either way but I have a feeling that the judges will go with Hida out of the two.
5th: Hida: Looks good. Hard and bigger than before. Has an improved back and great color. Still needs to be a tad bit harder to compete with the freaks.
4th: Silvio: He should have skipped this show and waited for the Olympia. The body can't sustain the lean look he maintains all year around. You can only peak at the most twice a year and now he has come in a bit off and dropped his ranking going into the Olympia. He looked good but just a tad bit off.
3rd: Dennis: Great condition and still as freaky as ever, especially on the side shots and the MM.. Crazy.. BUT, from the back he gets killed. Dennis is wide but when he hits his Back Double Bicep something happens?!
2nd: Evan: Get Pro debut. Conditioning was spot on and improvements, especially in the back were obvious. Full and hard as nails he was 100% on. He still needs more muscle maturity but made a huge statement here in NY.
1st: Marcus: The best I have ever seen him. Monster size, craziest arms on the planet, much improved legs and hard as nails. Marcus will always be the biggest man on stage but this time around his conditioning matched his size. He too was at 100%.. because of he was to come in a tad drier he would lose some fullness and mess up the overall package.

good post...i agree....in my personal opinion, I feel that David Henry has the under 202 class, but I don't have the same eye for these things that an IFBB Pro does. You've been there and I haven't. Thanks for posting this review.

Nice prediction. I still put henry to win the 202. His thickness/muscle belly's is just insane. I dont see markus beating Evan, Evan is just spot on. Everything just flows perfectly.

@ King
Are you judging from the MD pics or are you there?
I wonder if they look different on stage than on those pics.

I got Henry winning the 202 and Evan winning the open class, would be nice to see Ruhl take it. Would be a nice last show for him . These 2 deserve it both though.

King.. Why do most pros use highly reflective tan (shiney).. The pro i think called tarek" looked great.. Yet evan was so shiney and most, and you could barely see any detail.. Same with ben white

i would assume it's a combination of the oil and the intense stage lights.

It was very close between David and Kevin but like I said, a slight edge went to Kevin and let's not forget that Kevin is an East Coast boy and the show was in NY.

It's in the eyes of the beholder. Marcus was the best ever for him and he was rewarded. Evan did his homework and won. I personally had Marcus winning.

It's the lighting bro... In all honesty if these same athletes were under the Ironman Pro lights the outcome might have been different.

While I agree with you to a certain extent, you need to grow up and realize that Kamali is an IFBB pro. Whether or not you like his physique is fine and dandy, please just show some respect.
I'm not a fan of Kamali in particular, but he is a pro for a reason!

I'm failing to see how it is any less mature than most responses around here. I'm half understanding the calling of a prick, but saying god damn? Sorry I didn't point out it was a joke.

5th: Hida: Looks good. Hard and bigger than before. Has an improved back and great color. Still needs to be a tad bit harder to compete with the freaks.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Evan had an amazing pro debut, his size and conditioning was dead on, Evan had the best set of legs out of your top three, best proportions and symetry, and best flow from part to part. Evan looked rediculous on stage. Marcus could have come in a little harder I think. He looked like he was still holding alot of water in the prejudging IMO. Dennis's high lats are what take away from his back double bi IMO but Ruhls blockness and inability to rid his midsection of water/weight/blockiness clearly took away from his back double bi. The best part about Ruhl's back double bi is, well, his bi's! Samuel looks alot more impressive in pictures than he did in person, hide definetly had the edge in that matchup.
OT: King I am suprised you didn't go, figured cause it was close you would have been there.

Again two very different looks. This is a subjective sport and each judge sees things differently plus I was not there to see them live on stage. Personally I thought the show was between David and Kevin but the edge was in favor of the East Coast guy.

I don't see how you and I are that different in our opinions. I gave Evan all the props he deserved but he is still needs to fill out to take it to the next level. Marcus has paid his dues and came back at his all time best. It was very close and the top 3 were in a battle. Evan's body flows well and he brought his A-Game... He won and nobody will complain about this one.. It was judged fairly.. 'nuff said.
