How important are first year marks?

Fortunately I did very well, thank God.

Just curious what good are they for? does it really matter what grades you get in your first year?

it depends on what classes and what is your major.

yes. your gpa can move a lot in the first few semesters. towards senior year, they don't change much since there are more and more classes/credits.
A lot of jobs have gpa minimum requirements just to get interviews.

A little. Obviously aim for A's, but you can lift your marks after. In my uni, to do your masters you need a certain average or better for papers from the 200 level and higher.

I do..and thank God my hardwork paid off and the majority of my marks are A's. Thats why I'm asking though, i kind of just feel like it doesnt really matter if they were As or Bs or Cs ..i would still pass 1st year and have the prereqs for next year so I can get a degree. Besides scholarships, the marks dont seem to matter to much, but I could be wrong.

Besides feeling good for having A's, what more good can they be in first year?
