Car audio people... need help on getting an amp and some subs for my truck.
In case you need to know anything to help me out...
- I listen to pretty much everything... rock, pop, rap, country, etc... mainly rap, tho.
- The truck is an '07 Z71 Silverado.
Don't really know what else to say... ummm... anyways, I was wanting to go with JL Audio. They seem to be pretty good and the only kind I've actually had any experience with (and I will say that I was very pleased with them... no complaints whatsoever. They hit damn good). I'm not really sure what size to go with, tho. I was thinking about going with either 2 12's or 2 15's. But if I go with 2 15's, I've already been informed that I'm going to have to take out the entire backseat... not entirely sure if I wanna do that... plus, I know I'm going to be spending more money for bigger subs and I don't know if I wanna do that unless it's really worth it.
So, give me some advice and tell me what you think would be good to put in a truck... also, thoughts on JL Audio and if you think I should go with another brand or not.

JL Audio is great but a bit overpriced. Also good are Alpine, Rockford Fosgate, Interfire, Kicker. Get 2 12" subs and it should be more than decent, 15s will hit hard and deep and are mostly for rap, they'll take away from the other sound styles and overpower it with bass. Get a 1000w amp or something similar to power them both and you are set!

Do you have an extended cab or a regular cab. If it is a regular cab you are going to be very limited on what you can fit. If you have an extended cab and are willing to take out the back seat you have lots of options for the BOOM!
I would suggest staying away from JL and going with an internet company such as Sundown Audio, Fi or INcriminator Audio.
You probably have not heard of most of them but visit a forum like caraudio.com/forum or crunktimes.com/ct and you will see people puttnig up crazy numbers with this stuff.
Right now I am running a Fi 12" BL with a Sundown 1200 amp and it POUNDS!

I've got an extended cab. The only issue I'm struggling with is whether or not it's worth it to take out the backseat just for bigger subs. Surely I wouldn't have to take out the backseat for 12's...

It depends, you are going to still be somewhat limited with leaving the seat in but a lot of people keep the seat in and just raise it a bit to get a little more room.
If you listen to mainly rap you want the most space you can get possible IMO. If you were more into country, pop etc then a smaller sealed box would be probably ok due to the fact that they are not as bass intense as hip hop.
One 12" should be fine. I have one in my van and it still hits extremely hard even with all that inside room which a truck does not have,

DEFINITELY buy a new battery and alternator... I have 2 12"s JL enclosed and 2 amps, one for each, 1000 watt and 1250 watt. It does hit hard as hell, makes your hair stand up, but if you give it too much it can cut out because the lights dim a lot and the alternator can't handle it. So once you get those 2 done you will be fine. I still don't dare max my amps out, they're only at half bass and half power settings and they hit so hard.. I can imagine it at full lol.

K... So, here's what I'm faced with. I went down to an audio place to check out some JL stuff. They are talking to me about getting a stealthbox installed under the backseat with 2 10s... And then I was wanting to replace the stock speakers in the doors, you know. They said it would run about $1500-1600. They also said I can't go bigger than the 2 10s without taking out the backseat and he said that I'd probably regret doing that. So, what do you guys think I should do? Should I do that or maybe go with kicker instead, take out the backseat, and go with maybe 1 15 back there and then replace the door speakers with kicker ones, too? Think I could get that done for around the same price or maybe less? Need help, guys.

Not sure what make your truck is, but /Joe Fox makes a fantastic under seat box for the Dodge Rams. Im running 2 12" Alpine Type Rs, and a kicker 1500.1 Amp. Its loud as hell, the seat is still functional, and i dont have big ugly ass boxes all over the place.

Edit: heres Joe's site, he does most makes of truck
