Ok well I have a 3 day workout program (Mon, Wed, Fri). I take 1 scoop of Optimum 100% Whey protein in milk every workout day. I'm wondering if I should start taking it on off days too though?

WORKOUT DAYS-1 before workout, and 1 after workout. I personally drink one in the morning, but you don't have to.
You can even have a caesin shake before you go to bed so you can be anabolic while you sleep!
NON WORKOUTDAYS- whenever you want a "cheat" meal, or when you can't get in all of your daily protein.

I'm more than 2 years late on this forum, but i drink protein every day except maybe one day in a week. I'd say that it depends on YOUR body. You should know your body better than anyone else and if you build fat quickly, then never take protein on off days. If you've beat up your muscles from workouts on previous days and have not gotten much protein in your normal daily diet, then definitely take some...especially if you're trying to get much bigger. You'll need the extra protein if you're working hard. Knowing how your body burns fat is the important thing though...and drink lots of water, that helps to burn the fat too!

Hi, I see this thread gets bumped every few years, but it touches on something important.
I'd also like to ask, what about break weeks? Some of us take a week off after four or eight weeks of training.
On the day of and the day following your last workout leading up to the break you would of course take protein. However for the remaining five or six days of the break, do you stop taking the extra protein and just rely on whole foods for your needs?
I've always followed the rule that the body doesn't need excess protein to repair muscles after two days have passed. So if you only work out once a week, you'd take protein supplements on two or three of those days and then skip it until you workout again.
This achieves two things :
A) No excess protein turning into fat
B) The body is less likely to learn and treat protein as an energy fuel

It doesnt matter. It just depends, however many you need to hit your required amount of protein, drink that many. If youre aiming for 200 grams of protein, and youve eaten 200 grams, then dont drink any! If youve only eaten 150 grams of protein, then drink two. There really is no magic number.
