It's freaking protein. It's like asking "when should I eat chicken during the day?"
You are supposed to be eating/drinking protein throughout the day. Post-workout is an almost a "MUST", but any other time in which its easier to place a shake than a meal is good. Before going to bed is a great time to have a casein shake.

I have one in the morning right when I wake up, take a shower, and then eat my breakfast as I normally would. Post work out as well.

Immediately upon waking, post-workout, and before bed are the most common and beneficial times when protein shakes are consumed. They can also be used whenever a whole food meal cannot be consumed.
