PPL who have had Tendonitis in thumb or something similar help out!

My thumb has been bothering me for some time now. At first I ignored it and continued lifting. Now it has gotten to the point where I can't really pick anything up with the hand without sharp pains in the my thumb area. My mom said it was tendonitis probably but she didn't really know what I could do. Has anyone else had anything like this and what sort of things did you do to recover?

You try icing it? You been to the doctor? Is it continuous or does it go away when not lifting?

I'm going to the doctor tomorrow and I know that he is ultimately the person I need to listen to but I just wanted to her some other experiences/suggestions from people who have had similar injuries. I have been taking aleve for a couple days but it still is bothering me; I have iced it a few times as well.

I'm no doc, but your real problem started when you first ignored the pain. The only way to heal it is quit using it. I can't say how long your recovery will be, but, unfortunately, it will probably be longer than if you dealt with it early on. Your doc will get you squared-away. Good luck.

Ok so I went to the doctor today and he confirmed that it is tendonitis. He told me that it will take 2-3 wks at least for it to heal. Im pretty pissed but I dont want to to permanent damage. Hope I dont shrink from not working out haha

It could have been much worse. You'll do okay; just train around it. Work your lower body with machines, or whatever you can do while not using your hand. Use the time to do some extra cardio. Keep your nutrition in check while you've cut your training back, and you'll be fine.

Use it as a learning experience; next time you think you've injured yourself, if you deal with it immediately, you may be able to avoid any layoffs. Again; you'll be fine; you won't shrink. Good luck.
