Traveling for a Competition
This might sound like a stupid question, but I'll ask it anyway. I've done local competitions in the past but in a month or so, I'll be flying out of state for a competition. I'm arriving a day early so I can get settle, check-in early, and finish up any last minute touch ups with tanning stuff, etc.... My question is, what do I do regarding food? I don't think I can take a cooler full of food as a carry-on... Do I look for a hotel with kitchen amenities?
Any sugguestions?

Take foods that do not require preparation. I don't know what your diet is like but whey and packaged cereals are great for carbing up and don't require much at all in terms of preparation.

I've known a few people who had coolers confiscated from them...not cool.
Carry on only the food you need during the flight, and pack the rest in your check-in luggage.

I did a show an out-of-State show in March. I cooked and froze my chicken and fish, then packed it into a carry-on soft side cooler. No problems at security. Bought the other items when I got to the show. Just make sure you have access to a microwave. It worked great for me.

My clients and I will either freeze and take the food and/or make sure a store (like Whole Foods) is close to the venue. Then we'll take just enough for a day or so and go buy the rest. Of course this requires a mini kitchen. Or sometimes we use a hot plate and pan to cook.
There are many creative things that can be done. But do NOT rely on restaurant food, etc. There's typically hidden sodium in there that can really mess things up. I've seen many a people (including pro's) mess things up by not being particular enough about where there food comes from.
Best,

Agree, freeze & get a hotel room that is a small suite w/ refrigerator, micro etc....small kitchen. You can always go to the market for quick essentials.
