modded pullup
I have been doing pullups as one of my main excercises but I can't do more than 3 to start so I've used the method where I put my legs on a toolbox or something 2 ft high and do my pullups that way. I work till faliure since I wanna be able to get to genuine pullups at some point.
Is this method totally counterproductive? I can't tell, I still feel the ache afterwords, but I'm wondering if there's a better workout to do that will focus my back and biceps. Thanks G's.

One thing you can do is set a number of reps you want to complete, say 15-30, and do as many sets as it takes until you hit that desired amount of reps.
When I first started I could only do about 5 pull ups, so on every back day, I would do 5 sets of 5 to hit 30. Now I am doing weighted pullups! Just something to think about.

At least you're trying bro. If you can stick with it you'll improve. I used to workout at home and had a pull up-dip station only so I did mostly bodyweight exercises. One of the things that helped me get more pull ups was pyramiding. Start simple like 1-2-3-4-3-2-1, and keep working up. I did those with most bodyweight exercises. Good luck, wish you many muscles.

Great idea
I need to try this...I haven't been able to do a real pull-up yet.

Ahh pullups, one of the mose beautiful and yet worst exercises ever invented... as someone mentioned previously, the assisted pullup machine can certainly help with reps. If you don't have acess to one, you can use a spotter.
Basically, bend your legs at the knees so your shins are parallel to the deck, and have your spotter help lift your feet. It usually helpd give the little bit of added momentum you need to get a few more pullups in. It's better than just resting your legs, since the spotter can change the amount of help you get depending on how much you need.
This coupled with the 'as many sets till you hit your goal' method that Bradicallyman suggested should help anyone looking to improve!
