I cannot believe people are saying NBA would win....NHL would destroy the NBA. NHL players are so tough, they break bones and get all of their front teeth knocked out and return the next period. A basketball player would be out for weeks...

I begin tomorrow. Eighteen weeks in this dark hole. 126 days of pain. 3024 hours of hunger and desire. I'm already counting the minutes, the seconds When it's over, I'll step into the light. I will shine...
Until then, you'll live in the shadow, in the darkness, in a place few will ever see... Where ugliness becomes beautiful.

Ever heard of steve yzerman, he played through the playoffs, scoring 23 goals in 22 games, on a knee with NO CARTILAGE, it was bone on bone, he couldn't walk, run, or practice, and he could barely get up after falling to the ice, but he played 22 games, and played well in those games. Makes Tony Romo's thumb seem a lot more trivial doesn't it.

Ya exactly. Some guys go their entire careers without a fight. Its not their job to beat the piss the other team its their job to score. But that being said, those guys are the ones subject to the dirtiest **** in hockey, which is why there's fighters, to protect your snipers from the other teams goons. But just because you don't fight play the game, doesn't mean there's not idiots trying to knock you the phuck out. I play crappy hockey and haven't been in a fight at all this year because I'm not some tryhard who thinks its the nhl, but it doesn't mean its not dirty as hell. In our last 2 games, I lost one of my pearly white front teef, and also got a dirty ass high stick to the nose and now have a massive ugly cut going across my snoz. Neither drew a penalty and the play just continued. If it happened d.wade I think the guy would be convulsing on the floor or being carried off on a stretcher

Every version of an NBA fight I've ever seen involves a guy coming from behind a bunch of people, cheap shotting some guy, then going back behind all the people under the guise of "hold me back!!!". Never more than like 3 second bursts.
In NHL, it's toe to toe for as long as you can go. No hiding.
So I'd say NHL, but what you'd probably just have is the NHL guy chasing the NBA guy around while he's hiding behind people yelling, "hold me back!!!"Last edited by Viking22; 05-01-2009 at 08:19 AM.

this is such a retarded discussion... we both know if youre a professional athlete you are in great shape and likely work out everyday whether you play basketball or hockey.
the real question being asked here is:
Who would win in a street fight? An average sized guy who is tough as nails or a tall guy who is just as tough as an average person.
Personally i think someone should call spike and say they should have a deadliest warrior/athlete episode based on this thread.

Interesting thread, good to see majority of answers are sensible and ppl have their heads screwed on. Kinda sad that ppl had to mention race as if that had a deciding factor.
End of the day, NHL players are used to fighting, conditioned to it and pretty damn good at it through years of rumbling. They hit hard and are used to taking hits. NBA players although visually stronger looking and more imposing, do NOT fight as part of their sport. NBA is a totally different kind of game, alot more regulated in terms of what players can and can't do.
Guys like Shaq would be harder to beat due to their huge size advantage, but not to say a smaller athlete who knew how to hit couldn't bring him down with a few well aimed strikes."Honor is something that all men are born with. It cannot be taken from you nor can it be granted. It must only not be lost."

So your comparing a league where the players are under constant physical damage (fights, checks, injuries from checking, broken bones, etc etc) which is NHL to a literal non-contact fast paced sport as the NBA? Yes the NBA players have the reach to start a fight and dominate it...but the NHL player has the endurance to take the pain and go to the end where that 1 hit he needed to land destroys the NBA player.
