How long does it take to grill chicken leg quarters on charcoal?

I've never grilled chicken on charcoal but tonight the gas ran out on my propane grill.. How long should I expect for the chicken to fully cook on charcoal? From what I understand it should take quite a bit longer but will taste better.. It's starting to get dark and I don't want to be out there cooking all night..

Shouldn't take more than 20 min or so.

That doesn't count the amount of time for the charcoal to get hot. That takes about 30 min.

    Brah.. Charcoal.

It's going to take alot longer than 20 mins. It takes longer than that on a regular propane grill.

It says 10 to 15 min per side. If you got the charcoal hot enough, it shouldn't really take longer than a propane grill.

get a george foreman..made some griled chicken today in 8mins..it was great!
but charcoal will take like 30mins after it's heated to proper tempature and stays at that temp.

I've got one. It's too small to cook these leg quarters though.

lolz. i muffed up quarters the first time cooking also. you need to have the coals burning at a medium-high to high temp when you first throw them on the grill. I wouldn't cook for any less than 45 minutes to be on the safe side. It's impossible to dry out quarters unless you let them cook overnight. Only flip once.

its the same proccess dood... just with a different heat source...

just guessing, i dont think you used enough charcoal.

should be about 30 minutes.... depending....but your eyeballs and nostrils should be able to tell you whats going on...a thermometer would work too...then you can see how hot stuff is ....right?
