Tony V's Off season MASS RECONSTRUCTION with Scivation!
For streamlining my various online accounts and security purposes, please notice my new screen name!
With another second place finish in the open category under my belt and having learned some very valuable lessons, I'm entering what is to be the best, most productive, and FUN off season of my bodybuilding career. Compared with my other off seasons - the first which was way too short, and the second in which half the time I spent either drinking alcohol, being injured, playing poker, and generally slacking at at the gym - this off season starts with a DETERMINED, FOCUSED, and EXCITED mindset. Best of all, I'm completely backed by Scivation. I'm putting my mouth and reputation on the line here - if and when I next compete, I don't care who shows up, I win the overall!
The old me:

I discovered I was posing completely wrong on stage and when I didn't have a mirror (second picture is two days after my competition):

I won't be ultra detailed with all my workouts. I'm mostly going to concentrate on how I feel (about everything), my current goals, and what is going on in my life outside of weight lifting. If I break new PR's, or have a particularly great day I'll be sure to mention it, though. I'll get some pictures up too! Off season pics for the LOL win! ALSO - now that I'm fully back from my mini post-contest vacation, I'll be making the rounds regularly to make sure you all are getting your butts in the gym and representing!
My MASS RECONSTRUCTION begins now!

I just got my scores from the judges. I was soundly beat in the first round, and the first place winner and I split the scoring in the second round. Every judge said my back sucked LOL. If I had been posing "correctly" on both my rear lat spread and rear double bi, it may have been much, much closer. MASSIVE, MASSIVE lesson learned.

Round one of the contest prep diet was just the beginning, T is going to pulling all the stuns in this journal. Ill always be following along and wishing you the best Tony!
You now know what you need to do to be stage ready next time around, and the poses will be nailed, this time well be sure to walk away with hardware in hand. Good luck.

Although I got back into the gym the Monday after my competition, the first few workouts were utilized to get back into the swing of things - feeling my way through various exercises. I can already tell my strength is jumping back from the prolonged dieting, which is a HUGE motivation in and of itself. Yesterday I worked out back - the area of my body that needs the most work and therefore will be the first muscle group worked in my split. I am almost embarrassed to admit this - I never did a deadlift of any sort in my life until 2006, and I've never done them with any consistency. Until now. I know my back needs to be both thicker and wider and if I am going to get there is no other way around it anymore. I've spoken with Derek and we're likely going to draw up a workout program specifically for my back sometime soon. In the meantime, it's complete concentration on the lats when doing pull downs/pull ups, and smooth full squeezes when doing deadlifts.
I've got chest on tap for later this morning - can't wait to get my grow on!
Supplements
------------
Scivation Whey
Vasocharge
XTEND
Essential FA
Sesamin
Vitamin Shoppe Daily Multivitamin
Primaforce Beta Alanine
CEE on non-workout days
Occasional Cytosport Muscle Milk until Solution 5 hits the market!
I'll be cycling dialene 4x for a week or two after a few tubs Vasocharge.

Subbed for the new journey.
Your posts have a very positive vibe to them now that show is over and its time to put some weight on. Looking forward to seeing you take it to the next level.
Any advice to other competitors about avoiding making that mistake on posing? Going by your update pics from the gym, where you hit the mandatory poses, I personally thought you were pretty damn good at it.

Have you seen differences from taking CEE rather than Creatine Mono? I hear that stuff tastes horrible

Good luck with the new split, I am also a person who needs to take a lot of pride in bringing up their back and its my sole focus in my offseason. I will be taking some notes from your journal in aiding my lats as well Tony.
Cant wait to see the split and the progress through time in here.

I hit up chest today and can definitely feel the effects of coming off my diet. My pumps are bigger and more sustained and my strength is creeping back up. A part of my off season strategy is to do *gasp* cardio regularly. It won't be in long amounts but it'll be consistent and often. I'm planning on doing 6 HIIT intervals immediately post workout 2x per six days, and on my lone day off from lifting another 8 HIIT intervals. On all my other lifting days, I'll do 10-15 minutes of LISS immediately post workout. All of this is vs. me having never done cardio in the off season. So all of it should help quite a bit! My back and my quad conditioning absolutely must be improved, but that does not mean I won't push the rest of my body as well. Everything is going to get better - but my legs and back are going to get MORE better. Correct english. Suck it.
My plate is full in the coming weeks. I am going out of town briefly in about two weeks, I have an EGD/endoscopy scheduled 4 weeks from now (on going stomach problem!), then I'm going out of town again at the beginning of June and end of June. I've already gone over in my head how I'll go about fitting my workouts in, so it shouldn't be much of an obstacle.
In a side note, The Royals can't hit worth crap right now. But at least we have the best pitcher in baseball! I'm sure the Yankees or Dodgers will love to get their hands on Grienke when he's a free agent in about 4 years.

Screw you and your Kobes (yes, Jazz fan). Maybe the Royals are the new Marlins/Rays, a young team with inexpensive roster that may finally get its due. Way to kick it off strong.

Keeping some cardio in. Even with minimal amounts I have been doing, its been enough to were it helps so much in the weightroom. Specially higher rep sets for bigger body parts.
