Well, it comes to this.
(I wasnt sure I wanted to rant <a.k.a. feel sorry for myself> here, but perhaps it will mean something to someone else too...)
I have spent the last year-and-about-4mo getting myself from 302/about 45%+ and am now sitting around 220 and under-20...
But around Christmas time I noticed this bump on the back of my head behind my ear... and that it was 'more difficult' to open the jaw on the right side from bumps over there too...
And it has gotten worse.
So, a couple of weeks ago, I went to the VA hospital and they did a biopsy on the one behind the ear...
and called it lymphoma. The 'Big C'. Cancer.
Tomorrow I (supposedly) begin chemotherapy to see if the other bumps will 'go away'...
After over a year of working on this shell I call me, I have to do MORE bodywork!
I wonder if they will touch up the paint too...
I really dont know how long this has been coming... it is possible that Ive had it for a long time but couldnt tell due to the extra padding I was carrying... there are no obvious pains/fevers/etc that imply being 'sick'...
Havent been in the best of moods recently... evidenced by the near-extinction of my profile (from the 'yuck-filled' 4-1-09 incident)... and along with a shift change at work, Im only now getting back to the gym... (time off to allow the stitches from the biopsy to heal enuf, etc...)
Yes, I know. More excuses.
It will be interesting to see how long it will take before I end up cutting off the remains of my hair.
Okay, I'm done!

Wow....I'm terribly sorry to hear that. I wish you and your family the best of luck. But if you can go from 45% bf to sub 20, you should have the will to beat this. You've also got an upbeat attitude which goes farther than you think when it comes to terminal illnesses. I truly believe that even modern medicine can be proven wrong w/the proper attitude.
Take Christopher Reeve for example, the thought of having any type of movement whatsoever after severing the spinal chord was thought to be utterly impossible... but he was somehow able to wiggle his fingers eventually.
I think it was all due to his attitude and his drive to beat his affliction.
If I believed in prayer, I'd say that I'd pray for you... All I can do is wish the best for you.

There is no 'family' per se, tho brother(s) havent heard about it yet...
One has enuf with his own issues...
Gonna wait until I know how this 'treatment' will mess with me b4 I say anything to them...

Good luck to you, man... wishing a fast recovery for you! Sounds like you have the right outlook about your situation and life in general. Just attack it in the same manner you would the iron in the gym. One rep at a time, brother!

Sorry to read about your difficulties. All I'll say is take it one day at a time, keep strong, and heal fast.

Man that's tough. I can't imagine what you are going through but I wish you all the good fortune in the world. I'm sure that staying strong has to be of assistance in fighting this though.

So sorry to hear this! What are they telling you about stage and prognosis? My former bosses wife has been fighting it for some time, and I understand the prognosis can be highly variable. I hope yours isn't too advanced and that you're able to achieve a good solid remission quickly!

Today I went for a bi-lateral bone marrow biopsy.
WTF?
They punctured my lower back, drilled into BOTH SIDES of my hip bones, and extracted bone marrow (PLUS some actual bone) for testing to make sure that the lymphoma has not moved into the blood-making system...
I admit I was UBER nervous as I have seen all the 'tortures' they show on TV... but it actually was NOT that bad!
Until I got home... and got that 'dull ache' that I'm sure everyone of us has experienced at least once.... it gives a new meaning to 'bone tired'
Was SUPPOSED 2b starting chemo today too.... They attempted to schedule it at 0730-0800... BEFORE THE marrow extraction!
I had 'issues' with them starting chemo when they hadnt done the marrow test yet... let's just say that I 'accidentally' didnt get there for that...
I AM concerned that they wanted to put in something.... I think it was to make multiple chemo treatments 'easier'... but if it has ANY chance of interfering with my ability to go 2 the gym... we'll have to discuss other options! I WILL NOT STOP my gym 'work' for this (despite evidence to the contrary! )
SO... that will be rescheduled... and my lower back feels like it has been doing squats for 10 hours non-stop (not that I actually KNOW what THAT would be like!)
but it does hurt... some...
not anything resembling intolerable tho... that, I'm sure, willl come later!
... and reps 2 all of you! (once recharge takes effect, of course! )

Hang in there & keep a positive attitude. The healthy lifestyle you've been living for the past year & 1/2 will work in your favor. A positive attitude is a tremendous benefit too.
In any case, (and as I'm sure you're aware) - protein shakes will help your body repair and recover from the chemo.
When my Daddy was going through chemo for Colon Cancer, I put him on MetRx shakes - 1 a day. He actually gained weight, and the Dr's couldn't believe he was sick. Didn't look it, didn't act like it.

Fortunately for me... I was not able to SEE what they did... just 'felt' it...
it was interesting that I could FEEL the 'damage' it did!
I actually felt very little 'pain' from the experience... but that day and FRI was rather 'uncomfortable'...
I should know more this week... and THEN I will feel comfortable with subjecting myself to the chemotherapy...
I have already planned for the hair loss, and will get rid of it BEFORE it disappears by itself...

Here's hoping you get good news. Meanwhile hang in there! It should indeed be a lot easier to deal with once you know something about what you're really facing.

WoW! Major oppsie there!
I'm not sure if you saw this article a while back. Good read and imo anything can help. Not saying it's a cure by any means, but it worked for this guy.

Well, the resident that punctured me said that, since there was so little time between the 'scheduled' chemo and the marrow extraction that it might not have been an issue... but she was a bit surprised as well...
Not remotely concerned about it... if one week is going to make the difference between above-ground or Z-minus six-feet, then oh well...
did 'a bit too much' partying this 'weekend'... now its time to gym-rat up!

Good luck man.
The chemo may help you shed more weight then you want, keep that protein intake up. Minimize the lose of all those hard earned gains. Hopefully your trial will be short and CT's will be clear. In my prayers.

The latest
Well, this TU they wanna do a 'heart volume' test that involves quantities of radioactive material... Like glowing in the dark is on the 'list of things to do'!
Then Thursday, I guess, they intend to start the Chemo 'stuff'...
I have this strange feeling that Im gonna feel 'REALLY BAD' after this!
But it will take ALOT of pain to overcome the threshold I established sometime back! Even the bone-marrow biopsy didn't broach that 'level'!
Oh... btw.... bump!

Cool. My Cardiologist had me get a "nuclear stress test" last April that must've been similar. They used Tc-99. It came back perfectly normal so that's when I started working out again most recently because I knew it was safe.
Hopefully the chemo will go well. It can vary.
