Egnater Tweaker 15 Combo is getting delivered today! Ordered some Tung-sol 12ax7's to swap into it, can't decide to go with Tung-sol 6v6 or JJ 6v6s powertubes. The JJ's are supposed to sound more like 6L6 tubes. But if that's the case why wouldn't I just go with actualy 6L6 since the tweaker can take them...
Suhr Shiba Drive is also on its way.

Sold the Jet City, have a guy on the way to grab the Bugera 333 Infinium today.
Looking at a new Laney Ironheart AGAIN (had to 'quick sell' the last one)
Or used Laney TT100, Kustom Double Cross, H&K Switchblade.
Just not sure, MUST sell the Bugera FIRST though.Last edited by ctgblue; 01-11-2013 at 10:21 AM.

Just recently started playing again, never got very advanced or anything special, but I'm having a carpel tunnel feeling in my hand from holding strings down after playing about 10-15 minutes (specifically bar chords), was wondering if using one of those hand spring things people use for grip strength is something that would help, anyone ever try this?

So I just received a Suhr Shiba Drive and I have to say I'm impressed! My board right now consists of TS808 Reissue, AC Booster and Suhr Riot for distortion/overdrive.
Compared to the TS808: The Shiba doesn't have as much honk in it. So think a TS808 without the mid hump. But, when playing the Shiba next to the TS808, the TS808 sounds super thin. I have my TS808 to be used for SRV type tones and such. The Shiba can cop the same tones, but much thicker.
Compared to the AC Booster: The AC Booster has an exaggerated mid hump, but is much creamer compared to the TS808. But, compared to the Shiba it almost sounds muddy. The Shiba IMO retains more articulation. My biggest gripe with the AC Booster has always been its tendency to be too bassy for any sort of rhythm work. I'm pretty sure that the AC Booster is coming off the board for the Shiba Drive. It just has so many more usable sounds, from the TS to the smooth style of the AC Booster.
Compared to the Suhr Riot: Well, this is a pretty simple comparison, because they fill in different needs in a pedal. The Riot is a balls to the wall distortion pedal, think dedicated channel distortion for heavy distortion, whereas the Shiba Drive will bring you into breakup territory, but can't be used as a standalone pedal for heavy distortion.
I really like how the Shiba Drive reacts in front of a distorted amp. really smooth tone to boost for solos, but at the same time I really like how it adds gain to a distorted rhythm tone without getting muddy (Constant problem with my AC Booster)
I'm sure there is a lot that I forgot to mention, but I hope this may help anyone looking at this pedal!

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between using a mains adaptor + daisy chain leads to power a pedalboard (4-5 pedals) compared to using a larger unit such as a Dunlop Powerbrick or a Voodoo Lab supply? I've been playing for years now but have never really understood the hardware side of things and any help would be great. Are there advantages to using the larger units when playing live for example?
Thanks a lot

When you use daisy chain units compared to a larger power unit there can be a huge problem with excess noise. This is because when they are chained together the connections aren't isolated from each other. I actually had this problem recently as I had a pedal on my board going into an FX loop while others were in front of the amp. This created a huge grounding sound to come out of my amps, the remedy to the problem ultimately is to replace my supply with an isolated power supply...

Daisy chaining can work but in general it can cause AC ground loops (hum) and can rob tone especially using time effects (e.g. delay). An isolated supply like ones from Voodoo work by using a transformer (or multiple transformers) to keep every power outlet completely electrically isolated (like having a wall wart for every effect in one small package). Plus there are some effects that draw too much power and simply will not work on a daisy chain.
Here is something I saw onstage back in 2010 which I really like: Sanyo Pedal Juice. A battery unit which will power your whole board and is about the footprint of a smart phone. You never have worry about plugging in your effects ever again and there is no interference from AC ground loops. I've used it at shows that last four hours without any concerns. I think those are about 150 bucks and maybe less.

Hooked up a new Voodoo Pedal Power 2...Now I understand why people pay so much for power supplies! 90% of all the hum I had before is completely gone. I never would have thought it would be this drastic. Spend the money and get a good supply!

Is anyone here familiar with Seagull guitars? I'm about to buy a Seagull Entourage Rustic cutaway guitar, tried it in-store the other day and it sounded amazing.

Excellent guitars for the money. Made by Godin Guitars, a Canadian company. I have the Simon and Patrick line of Godin guitars and can't say enough good about it.

Having troubles with the Tubemeister, bought a couple of generic two button footswitches and both of them were bad, one only operated one function, the other shorted the system, when i hit the channel change, it started clicking through all the channels. Sent them back, going to GC to TRY the generic pedal before buying it.
I was going to buy two of them, but instead I got a Danelectro Fish & Chips EQ pedal for the effects loop. Now I have tried several EQ pedals through loops, and some worked okay and some sucked bad.
THIS ONE works as well or better than any of them and only $29.99
Not as adjustable as the 15 band rack unit, but just as good at sound shaping. So now I don't need the extra footswitch for reverb/fx loop. The Tubemeister reverb, when set, is heavier on the clean channel and lightens with each drive channel, lead showing the least reverb.

I've been very impressed with Danelectro effects. Maybe not the best on the market but bang for the buck, very hard to beat. I've used their drive pedal (cool cat Transparent Overdrive v1) on Marshall heads next to a couple hundred dollar pedals and actually liked the Danelectro better. Good stuff plus I think now most all their pedals are true bypass; only downside is that they sacrifice a little in durability to keep the price down but still good pedals.
And as you know from your own experience many people miss an opportunity to turn a good amp into a great amp just by sticking an EQ pedal in a serial effects loop.
Cheers.

Decided to just spend the extra $30 over two, two button, pedals and got the midi footswitch.
This allows not only saved channel settings, reverb, fx loop, etc.. but actual saving of the power sections used.
So it could be like: 1 = clean, 36 watt, reverb & fx on, 2 = crunch 5 watt setting, reverb off fx on, 3 = lead, 18 watt, reverb off, fx on. Etc..
Now I have to learn how to do this crap.
We just got iphone 4's yesterday and, like most new users, are already cursing them. So the whole midi thing may not be my bag...
Also just bought a Kustom Double Cross on eBay. Finally got one in my price range (dropped just before auction
end)
