    glock question

i never had one. never even held one or looked at one.
a friends son tried to clean his glock and shot himslelf in the upper leg a couple days ago. the bone is in pretty bad shape and the had to put in a titanium rod. so my question now is: are those guns hard to clean?? he said he tried to get the round out that was chambered.

Wow is this a true story? Glocks have been in my family for 15+ years, I currently own a 2nd Gen G19. Glocks are the easiest pistol to field strip and clean so this is very surprising. There's essentially only four parts when field stripping - the slide, the frame, the barrel and the recoil spring assembly. They have a triple action passive safety so I'm not sure how the gun could have even went off when attempting to disassemble it.

Seriously, that is some pretty negligent **** if someone shot themselves while trying to clean their pistol. Tried to get the round out? As if racking the slide is a difficult process.

I owned a G19, and I really didn't like it that much. It wasn't hard to strip or anything. I sold that and bought hk usp .45 for my future duty weapon.

Pretty major safety error. The weapon should be pointed in a safe direction while unloading and no finger should be inside the trigger guard area unless the weapon is pointed downrange and ready to be fired. Pretty simple concept. In fact, all gun safety rules are pretty simple and common sense. The problem seems to be keeping that safe mindset 100% of the time. Hope your friend has a speedy recovery.

Drop the mag, rack the slide, visually check, rack the slide, check. Keep your finger off the trigger. Keep the weapon pointed in a safe direction!

Do you know more about how it happened exactly? I'm guessing he got to the part of the video where you pull the trigger...

I am not sure. I just talked to his dad and he said that he was trying to get the round out the chamber. But after looking at the video I would say he forgot that there was one in the chamber. I bet he just pulled the trigger like in the video to field strip the pistol. I guess it's true stupidity hurts!!!

That is what happens when you violate the first safety rule: never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot. That includes the wall, or the floor if you on the second floor. Point it at a thick block or something.

My fear loading a semi automatic is that one of the bullets will blow up in my hand. Probably an irrational fear, but at least I'd never shoot myself in the leg.

Partof the field stripping procedure is pullinmg the trigger when the chamber is empty and dry firing it. Bet money he obviously pointed it at his leg when he pulled it since he didnt check the chamber. Dumb ass kid...bet he doesnt do that again.

There is no auto handgun that is easier to field strip imo. Glock is the essence of reliability and simplicity.

That sucks but its his own fault
