My 2009 P90X Journey!

As you can tell by my userid I have done the P90X program in the past. I started in in 2008 (1/1/2008 - 3/30/2008). I completed all 91 days and had pretty significant results. The main thing I learned from the program the first time around is to have intense workouts utilizing my own body weight will do wonders for my muscle definition and strength. That was lesson #1. Lesson #2, and the more important one is that my nutritional intake has about 85% to do with my end results. I have learned a bunch regarding nutrition from this program and beyond. I had continued to read more and more regarding dietary intakes and programs (which I found most are flawed because they are not well balanced and mostly 'diets' and not long term lifestyle plans).

So, here were are in 2009, I had continued to lift weights here and there and still perform pullups, but I have fallen a bit back over the past year. My weight is still good from 148 to 152.5. My strength is still good, if not better from a year ago, but my overall cardiovascular system is not in good shape since I dread doing any cardio exercises.

Today is my Day 1 of P90X of 2009. Looking forward to actually brining more intensity this year then I did last year. I could only do 1 unassisted Pullup the first time starting P90X so I think this time around I will have much more success. I have to make much more of an effort to actually perform the Ab Ripper routine, in the first round I think I only did about 10% of the time, because I was too exhausted post the workouts.

Here goes nothing... Time for Chest and Back - - Day 1! I will do my best to post some more recent photos and more in the coming weeks to track my progress.

I've found that doing the workouts in the am and ab ripper in the pm seems to work wonders for me.

Day 1: Completed. My intensity was not very good which stinks starting this program again. I was a 6 out 10 on intensity and I pushed hard through it even to get to a 6 intensity level. Feeling really sluggish today because of the lack of carbs, Im used to 3 or 4 portions a day and going to 1 today and not eating it till 5:30pm took a toll on me. I know my body will get used to it, but its been a very tough first day.

Work out was semi-successful I think. I usually can do more pullups and pushups in a session but my energy and strength level is down and Im not used to the speed of performing these in succession. In my normal workouts I take 3+ min breaks usually between sets to let myself catch up and this program takes really no breaks. I forgot how quick you move on in this program.

My overall stats for day 1 for Chest and Back were a 59 unassisted pullups and 188 pushups. I also did the Heavy Pants, Lawnmowers and Back flys. My top exercise was the Reverse Grip Chinups in the first part of the routine, I was able to bang out 17 clean unassisted. I skiped Dive-Bombers and the second set of Diamond pushups because they are extremely tweaky on my wrist. Tomorrow is Plyo.... getting ready to break out the puke bucket after a year off of Plyometrics!

Day 2: Completed. Plyometrics was as bad as I remembered it to be. I was completely gased by the end of the routine. My intensity level was still about a 6 out of 10.

The dietary plan has taken a real toll on my energy level. Hopefully things will start to pick up as my body gets used to the lack of complex carbs.
