That would be a dream time for me! My annual 5K is tomorrow morning. I'm hoping to beat 8:37 pace, which is my best so far in an actual 5K race. I know I am capable, but I can also promise you all that there will be no miracle sandbag-time finish for me either, lofl. When I say I know I can beat 8:37, I mean by running maybe, 8:20 if I'm having a stellar day. Anyway, 8:36 will even suffice .
I just finished a great Chest/Tri/Shldr session. One of the best in a long while and heavier than my current usual. Bottom line; I'm psyched for tomorrow. Supposed to be 42* in the morning (better than the 34* predicted for Monday), so over 10* colder than it has been. I actually like that temp to run in, so no complaints here."If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

Nah, there will be no "blowing away". As Clint said, "A man has to know his limitations" .
Thanks bruh! I honestly don't think I can avg a 8:15 though...but I will do my best. You have to keep in mind that I honestly never run to practice for a 5K (as related to speed). But I've come a long way since 06' when I wasn't sure I could even finish a 3 mile race, let along run under 30! 26:46 is the magic number for me to beat. I will be sure to post as soon as I get back."If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

I ran the best I could. Almost shut down toward the end and just felt like I was out of gas. But I didn't have to stop this time....and I beat my previous two race times!
Best 5K time for me yet!
The time to beat was my 06' time of 26:46. I crossed the line with the clock showing 26:33, but the chip time posted afterward showed me at 26:20.5 (8:30 pace). Man, I was hanging on for dear life and thought I was going to die when I was told I had 600 meters left. I'd been sucking wind since about 2.25 or so. The time called out at each mile mark had me at 8:30 at mile #1 (probably 8:20 for actual), 16:55 at mile #2, and I guess it was the 3 mile mark when he said 25 "something" (can't recall now), and I knew if I could hang on I could run that .10 in less than one minute to beat my old time.
My 19yr old ran it in 22+, and my 21yr old ran it in 25+, beating me by approx 50 seconds or so . He admitted later that he was worried because he was feeling gassed and he knew where I was. I never saw him again after we took off, but apparently I was within sight of him. I may try to post a post race pic or two later on.
Man, you guys don't know how happy I am that I beat my previous best time. I didn't actually practice to run a 5K for speed...and it really showed! Here I am, 1yr and 1mth quit smoking and only beat my 06' time by 20+ seconds...when I was smoking 2pks per day and it was my first yr running (ever!) and my first race. Go figure! I guess all the sprinting I did back then really helped. Someone also told me that nicotine actually kept air passages "open", and that after quitting you feel the effects of damage more. I don't know. Anyway, it's a great day so far!
PS. Steve, I actually thought of your words twice during the run when I started to feel stressed; "Run your race". Seriously, it helped."If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

committed sacriledge today
I wake up, and it is NASTY outside. Been nasty for 3 days now, but today was the worst.
I go up to the track, start walking to get loose, get a blast of cold wet rain in the face...and basically say 'F it'
...so, not wanting to blow off my run, I decide to do something I've never considered...I went to the Y and ran on the treadmill.
...it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. In fact...it wasn't bad at all.
4 miles, 44:54.

Thanks Nicki. And oh, I won't tell my name and never post full face pics..as you will see below . But actually Snoack knows my last name and he can always verify it later.
Thanks. And man, I can't even imagine a full M . Remind us next Friday!
Thanks Sid
Yeah, razzing each other was 90% of the fun. They are fun like that.
Ok, a pic of me about to cross the finish line...and a look of total exhaustion:
And the three of us after the race:
Enjoy your Saturdays. I'll let you guys know how I measured up in total standing later when they post them. No posting made yet. Even though my time isn't stellar (in the big scheme of things), I like comparing to others in my age group."If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

Special Note: Men's Health Chicago Urbanathlon Results
Hey folks just a quick post.. but I wrapped up my Urbanathlon this morning. The running conditions were down right awful. Prior to the start.. rain and hail. The start was nice.. cold but nice. I finished the race in 2 hours and 10 minutes (unoffical..waiting on official times). Then 30 minutes later the skies opened and it got nasty. Pouring Rain, more hail and Chicago's famous Wind.
Felt bad for the rest of the group still left on the course.
As for me.. I made it through without any injuries. I had a plan of running a smart technical race. Negative in the first half with a positive run in the second half. Folks I did a mile of nasty stadium stairs at Soldier Field. Damn my quads were burning. But.. I didn't stop and I kept pushing..safely. lol.
In hindsight I could have run faster, but due to leg injuries leading up to the race, I decided to stick with my plan. I'm very happy and can't wait to do this again.
Thanks to all for the support. I look forward to posting some more as I improve on my times and do more races."If the bar ain't bendin ur just pretendin"

Thanks, you are too kind Dee . Even I know that pic makes me look 10yrs older and on the verge of complete collapse. But yeah, I gave it everything I had in that last 30-40 yards. I sent my folks some pics, and of that pic, he said I looked like I was in agony .
And the official stats were posted:
I finished in 26:20:38.
I finished #16 of 46 runners in my age group (this pleases me most, lol, knowing many have run forever and don't lift)
I finished #166 of 422 in the Men's 5K.
My youngest son finished #71 overall, and the oldest finished #137 overall.
I'm very happy with it! It was 43* and overcast, yet a beautiful day to run.
Congrats, that sounds damn good to me!

Thanks. And you should do it, Sid (run a race). For me, this is really about doing an annual thing with my two sons and really not much more now. But as always, I find a way to make it exciting for myself in the way of self challenge, gamesmanship with the boys, razzing, etc... But you? While maybe not being a top runner, I'll bet you'd finish waaaaay ahead of the pack in your age group, as well as do fantastic in overall time/place.
Thanks. And I'd agree with the lifting helping overall, but I honestly believe it detracts from it very much, as well. For example, heavy lifting is not good for endurance running and vice versa. But I know what you mean.
I had in-laws come at 1AM this morning, as my wife is flying out to Greece with them today (they just left). So, I had to get out of the house and run this morning .
Distance - 5 Miles (I just kept going)
Time - 48 Mins (garage clock time, no HRM/watch worn this morning)
Pace - 9:38
41* and sunny & windy with 74% Humidity and dropping fast
Nice cool day to run. Enjoy your Sunday."If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."

Good morning runners!
Ah...
today was one of those mornings that I have maybe 2-3x per year. WIDE awake at 5AM, coming off a solid 7 hours of sleep and a rest day.
Got up, decided to take advantage of my good fortune, and went for my first EARLY morning run since March. Went to the Y, hopped up on the treadmill, and ran 4 sweet miles(pissed off that I had to cut it short, would have loved to have gone 5 and definitely had enough gas in the tank). Getting a little scared because I'm really starting to like this treadmill running...j/k. Actually, I'm glad that I'm able to adapt so easily to it, bodes well for the winter.
I'm getting back into a good, comfortable groove after a week off a couple weeks ago and some real up and down runs. I've got my lifting schedule straightened out, and with 10 weeks left in my current cycle my current running goals are run 3x per week, 12-15 miles per week. Not being focused on trying to stretch distances out or make noticable cuts in my times seems to be helpful because I can just enjoy the moment in my runs.
