haha, yup. Took your advice. Rough start, but not a bad run. One of the problems with alcohol, is it's dehydrating, so I made sure to drink plenty of water, during the day before the run.

    Distance: 4.25 miles
    Time: 41:10...
    Not bad considering!

Awesome that you have stuck to the challenge. I have in terms of mileage, but not in terms of daily running. lol Hat's off to ya!

    Happy Saturday, all!

I'm doing something similar but instead it's 100 pull ups a day. Yesterday I ran a 5k in 23:30 on a training run so I'm well on my way towards my goal for 2014. I really hope to run a sub 20 min 5k before I die.

Nicely done, euronewbie! I have been holding up my end here, too. (in terms of mileage, not daily running)

I’ve run three days this week, totalling…roughly 12 miles? I think that’s what I ended up with.
I hit a squat PR of 160 for 2 reps, on Wed…so that’s my ‘bigger’ news of the week.

    Happy holidays, runners!

Great job on the squat PR!!!!!
I miss squats, between training for the ultra, a lot of cycling (bicycle) and now this daily run challenge I haven't squatted (or worked legs hard) in close to 6 months.

At 31 miles this week with (2) 5 mile "ugly sweater" runs tomorrow and a 6 miler planned on Sunday.

Yeah, when you are training as you are for an ultra...lifting will compete too much...so I guess you need to keep your focus on training for the ultra. Squats will be waitin' for ya when you're finished.

Cleared a 5k through the neighborhood for the first time (usually run on my gym's indoor track). Threw a hill in for good measure though it slowed me down. I ended up averaging a measly 11 minutes per mile but I'll take it.

Tomorrow, the family heads to the park and the eldest and I are going to take a stab at C25K day one together. She's working on accumulating 26.2 miles of running at school so I figure if she wants to run and likes doing it, we may as well encourage it.

Great job! Throwing in some outdoor runs and some hills is a great thing even if it slows you down at the time. Running the indoor track will seem like a breeze after some hills. And your pace is nothing to scoff at you're out there doing it that's more than 95% of the population!

Absolutely encourage your kids to run and stay active. If they see you doing it even when you don't feel like it, you'll be setting a huge example that will stick with them for life.

    Great job! Keep at it.

Ahhh yeah!!! Now you've put it on here, we're going to be all over you to enter a meet next year, you'll be amazing!!

I love 5x5 programs, it's amazing the strength they build. I finished last New Year's Day hitting my goals of bench 315 and squat 405. All this running and training has really sapped muscle and strength away, oh how I miss the iron!

I'll just wallow in my morning pity party then go run all day.

    Great running everyone!

Finished my first 50k yesterday, the Seashore Nature Trail 50k, 4:42:07. Had a great time, felt strong the whole race, even with the crazy heat, 72* on the first day of winter, wtf? Feeling pretty good today, sore obviously, but not destroyed. I was 5th in sub-masters (30-39) and 21st overall out of 263 finishers. Looking forward to running it again next year.

Funny that I came across this thread as I just signed up for a half marathon a few days ago! I ran a 13.1 in 2012 and a 10k in 2013....and a few 5ks sprinkled in here and there most of my adult life just for fun....but have barely run since then just a couple warm up miles or HIIT here and there. Missed it and signed up for February so this week have been running about 3-4 miles a day, next week will be 4-5 miles daily, 5-6 and so on....about 4 times a week and I also lift of course! Looking forward to it, I love the feeling, rush, medititation, etc of a long run 7-10 miles are my favorite

Not 35+ but close enuff. Love running 5&10k's. Want to run a half marathon one day. Recently been on a long hiatus from running and lifting and I have gained like 30lbs since august. Gonna start at it hardcore again after Xmas day.

Just wanted to say if your road running. Please please run on the white solid line on the edge if the road running TOWARDS the traffic. Recently heard that a guy I knew was out jogging and got hit by a car from behind and injured really bad. He was running with his back to the traffic. The driver was texting and driving. The guy that got hit was wearing earbuds and listening to music and obviously had his back to the traffic coming up behind him.

Agree, always run towards traffic. I've had some close calls, staring right at the driver and them being completely oblivious that I'm there.

Best to date: car heading towards me, can see the woman driving as plain as day, cigarette hanging out of her mouth, looking down texting away, and drifting all over the road. By this time I had moved way onto the overgrown side of the road and was clear, then about 10 feet away she happened to look up, obviously saw me and jerked the car across the street (thankfully nothing coming the other way) she then proceeds to slam on the brakes, back up and start yelling that she could have had an accident!!!!! I just stood there completely dumbfounded. As she was next to me I noticed not only was she smoking and texting, but had a little dog running around the front seat and was eating a chicken biscuit and I was the unsafe one?

I ran 4 marathons this year. Ran about 1,000mi total. Most of my running friends don't lift. If there was just one strength exercise I would have them do, it would be deadlift. It has made me so much more durable than I used to be, which is a requirement to surviving any marathon training schedule. I had some stuff going on here not too long ago and slacked off on DL. Wouldn't you know, now I've got a little ITB problem starting up. I noticed a significant increase in overall health once I was able to do 5reps@1.5xBW. I have worked up to 5reps@2.0xBW, but feel that is about the upper limit where I start to get diminishing returns. My hypothesis is that DL is a full body exercise that doesn't just strengthen muscle, it strengthens bones and ligaments, too. Squats have helped me on hills, maybe a little with my 1mi, but DLs have been money. I would highly encourage anyone doing an endurance training program to include a couple days a week of DL. On a typical week where Sat is your long run day, I have found Mon and Wed to be the best DL or squat days and Sun a total rest day.

Good to have you in here. Hmmmm DL's? And here I was stressing about fitting squats back into routine. It all makes sense and I'm game for giving it a go.

Glad you're getting serious bout your training, so wish I could run in warm weather, all bundled up here in Ohio. 25 deg Wednesday now 0 deg on Friday. Probly not going out today tomorrow is back to 30 degrees. Best Wishes on the half in Feb.
