How about stuffs like getting value from not checking or checking and stuffs like that, +EV/-EV etc etc, where do you guys read up for thatmaybe it's just me but i feel like SS is outdated these days. this coming from a big fan of doyle...but it's useless for online poker...and a lot of the concepts are dated as well...i suppose it's a good book for learning the basics and fundamentals and some starting up strategy...tbh i dont read much of anything on poker and i think a lot of the reading material is just a guide...i mean it's poker...its simple to learn but it basically comes down to knowing your opponent, maximizing value of your hands, learning others tendencies...there's a lot of sub-sections other than the cards themselves...a lot of people read 2+2 forums, but me personally i just prefer the experience of playing...eventually you will learn from your mistakes and gain the necessary knowledge to profit...if u dont, poker is not ur game....i dont think any book can tell u how to play tho...i guess i am just one of those people that thinks that u either got it or u dont...in terms of being able to read people, bluff people, etc...
should also mention that having discipline is one of the most underrated aspects of the game...all the focus seems to go on the actual play, but people forget that without discipline, such as being able to handle bad beats, and a LOT of them, often slung together...and as being able to manage your bankroll without taking too many shots trying to move up, or playing out of your range...i learned a lot of these lessons the hard way myself, and i think going thru the experience has made me MUCH more solid of a player and extremely confident. im not knocking on books...they can be a great tool for some, but i simply dont gain anything from them...i like to be my own teacher...do u think people like doyle read books on poker strategy? no...they went out and played every day...day after day...and gathered their own knowledge...just like a scientist would like with an experiment...and in that way, i think doing all the work yourself and getting first hand experience makes you much more aware and knowledgable than reading about it.

I found it very useful actually. Poker is still poker, cards are still the same... chances and %'s are still the same, how can it be outdated?
It helps you with the card aspect a lot. No poker book will tell you how to play poker, it will help you is all. Otherwise, brb reading phil ivey's book and being like him.
"Cause these donkeys never figured out that the game wasn't about cards. It was about people." - Stu Ungar
I just watch a lot of poker... really a lot and I just study how people play their hands and in what position.
A good movie, me and my friends really liked it, is Stu Ungar's documentary. Just watch it for what it is though.

OOPS I AM SORRY. Next time I will be more careful when identifying my three cards of the same type.
I had played probably 500 hands on FT with no tracker. I switched to PS 2 days ago and have played a good 200 hands.Last edited by Suit; 11-07-2009 at 01:40 PM.

lol, the swedish government owned pokersite Svenskaspel has some ****ed up tournaments. Today they have "Crazy Daddy". The payout structure is standard, BUT, the one who finishes in 7th wins more than 1st.
Like:
1. $100
2. $75
3. $65
4. $52
5. $35
6. $20
7. $150
8. $10
Just as an example
