    Homemade barbell?

Hey, I've got a maybe 2 meter long, 4 centimeter diameter metal pole lieing around outside. I'm thinking of using it as a barbell for squatting, deadlifts and maybe benchpress if I can find something to use as a bench.

Has anyone got any ideas as to what I can use as weights, and how I can secure the weights?

Not quite sure what it's like in Norway, but I managed to pick up 130lbs of weight plates for just 15 GBP. There cheap if you look around, I found that newspapers are a good bet.

As for the bar, I personally wouldn't trust anything, at the end of the day, it's going to be holding potentially alot of weight and if it breaks it could do you some serious injury so I would invest in getting one designed for the use of bodybuilding.

    Would the plates fit, though?

I'm not going to worry about the bar breaking. I'm not going to add alot of weight to it, since alot of weight is more than I can lift.

I think those are called collars, if not, you can get 1.5in. (4cm) collars to secure the weights (if those exists)

I have various steel and stainless bars not intended for weightlifting, but they are the correct thickness and I have tons of collars so I have used the bars for lifting before. Not sure what you could use as weights though. Look around, alot of people will get rid of old concrete filled weights for free to clean up space.
